Sabrina’s Mile

On Saturday March 30th 2019, we invite you to walk a mile in Sabrina’s name at Coate Water Country Park anytime between 10am to 3pm.

This will help increase awareness of Diabetes and raise more funds to buy equipment, provide specialist training and to give support. With your help, we can continue to make a positive difference in the lives of people with diabetes right here in Swindon, the town Sabrina loved. This year, we want to help improve the lives of as many as possible of the 175 children with type 1 diabetes in Swindon. Will you help us do this please?

So who was Sabrina?

Sabrina Moccia was just 33 years of age when she died from complications related to Diabetes in January 2016. Sabrina’s family were absolutely determined that something positive must come out of this heart-breaking loss. “Sabrina’s Mile” was born to bring hope from tragedy.

Sabrina was inspired by the story of Terry Fox, the young Canadian athlete who had lost a leg to cancer. He dedicated himself to raising money for children with cancer by running from one side of Canada to the other. Including training, Terry ran more than 6,500 miles before the cancer returned. He exceeded his target of raising $1million and in fact raised $24.7 million! Although Terry died some years ago, people still run a “Mile for Terry” and to date his foundation has raised more than $650 million.

Sabrina loved this story. As an employment coach she used it to inspire and encourage her clients to overcome their challenges. In doing so she always went the extra mile to help them achieve their goals.

Through our annual event at Coate Water, and various other events, we have raised thousands of pounds which have been spent right here in Swindon. We have been able to help a lot of people but we still have so much to do. Sabrina’s family look forward to meeting you to enjoy a bracing walk in a beautiful setting. Bring the Sun along!
