New College Swindon Prepares to Celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2022

As part of National Apprenticeship Week 2022 (7th-13th February), New College Swindon is running a range of events and initiatives to celebrate the benefits and success that apprenticeships bring to students of all ages and employers.

There will be themed coverage across the New College and Swindon and Wiltshire Institute of Technology (IoT) social media accounts across the week. Coverage will include student and employer case studies, myth-busters, a competition and advice about subjects and applying.

NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP WEEK EVENTS

The College is also running several events to mark the week. Tuesday 8th February sees an Apprenticeships Fair and Information Evening taking place at the North Star campus from 4-6pm. Visitors can obtain information and advice, and talk to employers, including Recycling Technologies, First City / iCare Careers, Nationwide, Batten and Allen, Sinewave, A&D, RWE, Beard Construction and more.

For employers, a breakfast section on “Back to Basics” is taking place at 8am on Thursday 10th February at Queens Drive.  This event is aimed at smaller organisations and those who are new to apprenticeships, and who want to understand more about how they work and how they can benefit business, aid growth and productivity.
Finally, the College is holding its annual Apprenticeship Awards Ceremony on Tuesday 15th February, where the achievements of its apprentices will be celebrated with employers, families and stakeholders.

APPRENTICESHIPS OFFER AT NEW COLLEGE AND THE IoT

Programmes have been developed to provide a structured progression route for developing talent within an organisation. The College offers dedicated account management, a thorough training needs analysis, help with advertising vacancies, and complete support throughout the programme. The team also assists employers in the completion of any paperwork and funding applications and pre-screen and shortlist candidates based on employer specifications.

There is a range of apprenticeship subjects and levels on offer from Accounting, Business Administration and Construction Trades to Laboratory Science, Digital Marketing and Childcare. These are designed to complement different career pathways, providing training and qualifications from GCSE level, right up to degree level. The new Institute of Technology offers innovative higher and degree-level apprenticeship programmes across Engineering, Manufacturing, Creative, Computing, Health and Science and Management.

Carole Kitching, Principal and CEO of New College said:
National Apprenticeship Week is a wonderful way for us to promote and celebrate the impact that Apprenticeships can have – not just on students themselves, but employers and the wider community. What we offer really focuses on skills development and career progression at all levels across a wide of sectors, challenging the idea that apprenticeships only run for young people in traditional trades. Our Institute of Technology apprenticeships at Level 4 and above are a terrific addition, providing the higher-level training that offers fantastic career progression and an increasingly popular alternative to university.
