Local children’s charity nurse calls for support before end of fundraiser

A Jessie May nurse at the children’s hospice at home charity, is asking you to help us reach his £3,000 target before his fundraiser closes at the end of October.

30 year-old Steve Wiltshire, who has worked in the charity’s Care Team for over 2 ½ years, undertook a marathon challenge in the form of the 24-Hour Conti Thunder Run on July 20th in Walton-on-Trent. In a mammoth effort, Steve ran an incredible 74.5 miles (120km) in the 24 hour period!

Steve, who lives in Bradley Stoke, said: “The challenge couldn’t have gone any better than I’d dreamed, but if I had to sum it up in one word it would be simple: HARD! Not just physically, but mentally too. I never in a million years thought I would be able to run as many laps as I did.

I undertook this challenge because I love to see how far I can push myself. I always said I wanted to take on a crazy challenge in my 30th Birthday year, and to be able to raise money for Jessie May while doing that was just an added bonus.

I have been the face of this challenge, but this wasn’t a solo effort by any means. Having the support of the entire Jessie May team behind me, from the Care to the Fundraising Team, meant the world. This team is truly special, working tirelessly each and every day to ensure that we are supporting our families with the very best care and support we can possibly offer.

I also need to take this time to thank my family; to my Dad for helping me train over these last few months, and my wife for putting up with the endless hours that I was out running instead of spending time with her. And finally, a massive thank you to everyone who has donated. I can’t believe how close we are to achieving £3,000, and I would be completely speechless if we managed to hit it – so thank you!

Steve is a mere 17% away from his target, having so far raised £2,490.71 for the charity through his ‘The Difference a Day Makes’ fundraiser, and is encouraging further donations via his fundraising page here.

The high-achiever he is, Steve is already planning his next challenge, and welcomes any suggestions from readers. You can submit your suggestions on the Jessie May Facebook Page or on Steve’s Instagram.

You can also follow Steve’s complete journey from beginning to end over on his blog ‘The Difference a Day Makes’ here.
