Five Quaint Wiltshire Towns Perfect For A Spring Sunday With The Family

We’re blessed with some of the most picturesque towns in the country across Wiltshire, with many great days out for all the family just a short drive out of Swindon. From leisurely strolls to sumptuous Sunday lunches, there’s plenty on offer, and as the weather starts to pick up, they’re ideal for getting out to.

For elderly loved ones especially, the springtime provides a chance to get out into the fresh air with loved ones, perhaps taking a day out from senior care homes, or from the isolation of living alone. Either way, and whichever family members you wish to treat to the day out, we’ve hand-picked five quaint towns ideal for those wanting some fresh air, great food and fun with all your favourite loved ones…

Bradford-on-Avon

Located in the Avon Valley, Bradford-on-Avon is steeped in history and natural beauty. The streets have stories to tell on every corner, while the charming cottages make it a great spot to enjoy a gentle stroll on a Sunday afternoon.

The iconic medieval bridge is the focal point of the time, with plenty of cosy cafes, traditional pubs and artisan shops surrounding. It’s peaceful, scenic and a perfect option for a peaceful day out.

Marlborough

Famous for its historic market square and High Street, the town of Malborough is packed with Georgian buildings and quaint alleyways. It’s incredibly charming and for elderly relatives especially, nothing quite beats out an afternoon exploring the antiques shops.

That’s not all the town offers, however, with plenty of boutique shops and tons of options for Sunday lunch, including the likes of Dan’s restaurant and The Roebuck. Outside of the town, there are tons of trails for those seeking outdoor adventure, with many countryside pubs the perfect pit stops.

Malmesbury

Overlooking the River Avon, Malmesbury is often referred to as the Queen of Hiltop Towns, and it’s difficult to disagree. With winding streets and the impressive Malmesbury Abbey, which dates back over a thousand years, Sundays in the town are built for navigating your way through the independent shops and picking up a trinket or two, or enjoying the gorgeous Abbey House Gardens, which offer tranquil water features and colourful floral displays.

Corsham

Found in the very west of Wiltshire, Corsham can be described as a hidden gem. The high street is packed with independent shops, galleries and cafes, with Georgian architecture front and centre of the town.

It’s a great town to explore for the history buffs, with Corsham Court a must, whether you wish to explore the house or simply enjoy the beautiful gardens.

Devizes

Finally, Devizes is a bustling market town with a medieval castle and canalside that’s well-suited to a Sunday stroll.

The castle is a must explore, particularly thanks to its panoramic views over the surrounding countryside, while families can also make the most of the waterways with barge trips down the Kennet and Avon Canal. There’s much more to Devizes too, so whether you’re a foodie, hiker, history lover, shopper or simply enjoy relaxing in natural surroundings, this town is a great option.
