CORONAVIRUS LOCKDOWN: A MUM'S VIEW ON HOW TO COPE WEEK 6

This week the five year old has managed to surprise me beyond belief in that he’s memorised the entire back of the Mr Men books, so he knows them all not only in order, but by number too. This has literally blown my mind, it turns out he’s been sat up in his room with them all laid out in order looking at them. It seems lockdown has been a productive one for him so far. I just wish he would put as much effort into the home schooling, just one lesson without a strop would be lovely.

We had a little visitor to our garden which was one of the best things to happen all lockdown as it kept the boys quiet all afternoon.

The five year old announced there was a mouse in the garden and upon investigation he was right, he wasn’t in a terribly good way so we scooped him into a box with some food and water and hoped for the best. Both boys were told to be quiet, no ball games and generally not disturb the mouse. So we spent until bedtime in relative tranquility with multiple mouse observations through the peeky hole in the box. Result.

Unfortunately the mouse didn’t make it much past bedtime but at least they got to say goodbye. The five year old was remarkably ok about it the next day, I have a non lying policy with all my kids which can be interesting at times but I always hope it will help them to be resilient.

In other news my new favourite virtual babysitters are the London Sealife Aquarium and Finkley Down Farm. The live feeds really are fantastic, it gives you a small bit of peace (mainly to cook meal number 3846, try and have a hope in hell of seeing some floor space or putting on wash number 683) whilst someone else teaches them fascinating things, even if all the five year old wants to ask questions on is ‘how big is it’s poo’.

Another top tip is to hit up the Swindon scrapstore, they delivered us a huge box of goodies which was a godsend on the rainy days. They have so many great things online, I placed my order in the morning and it was delivered by the evening. I highly recommend the £8 craft box, full of books, balloons and random items for them to invent with whilst you cook meal number 3847...
