Best Locations to watch a Sunset in Swindon

Who doesn't love watching the sun go down after a gorgeous sunny day? Here in the UK, we get stunning sunsets all year round and luckily for you, Swindon is fantastically situated for watching a sunset. Here we reel off the best places for you to watch the sky turn pink and get the perfect sunset snaps with no obstructions!

We've all been there. You're looking out the window thinking 'this is going to be a great sunset, but I'm going to miss it, and I have no idea where to see it in all its glory'. Fellow photographers out there will definitely understand! But fear not, we're here to tell you the best locations for sunset-watching here in Swindon!

Shaw Forest Park

The Shaw Forest, in West Swindon, is an excellent location for watching sunsets in Swindon. Situated on the top of a hill near Peatmoor, it is central to Swindon and doesn't mean travelling outside the town for the view. The view from the car park sits directly where the sun sets, so you're always guaranteed a fantastic view - perfect for photos! Whilst your there, you can enjoy a good stroll around the park too!  Postcode: SN5 5PQ

Lydiard Park

Although not your typical sunset watching location, Lydiard Park is actually a great place to watch it. If you steer away from the main park and head towards the fields, it allows a huge open space with less trees so there's nothing getting in your way with viewing any gorgeous skies. The walk around the fields are a pleasant one too, and perfect for dogs - so make an evening of it! Postcode: SN5 3PA

Barbury Castle

Barbury Castle is one of the highest points in Swindon, so it goes without saying that you're bound to catch a great view of the sunset from up there. Being 260m above sea level, you'll have plenty of time to take all the images you need before the sun disappears. Note: The sunset is best viewed from the opposite side to the car park, and therefore requires a 10 minute walk so don't leave it too last minute! Postcode: SN4 0QH

Uffington White Horse

If you're prepared to travel out of town to watch the sunset, then White Horse Hill is the place to be. It's only a 20 minute drive out of Swindon, however, the views are absolutely spectacular and ideal for watching the sun set over Swindon. Note: Uffington White Horse is owned by the National Trust, so there is a car park charge. Postcode: SN7 7UK

Clouts Wood

Clouts Wood itself isn't ideal for sunsets because of the trees, but the opening at the top is. When you reach the top of Clouts Wood (accessible via Priors Hill), there is a huge open field which offers fantastic views over Wroughton and Swindon, perfect for sunsets! It also makes a great place for dog walking - but watch out for the wild bunnies which come out at dusk! Postcode: SN4 9NU (approx - follow signs from Wroughton)

Coate Water

If you're looking for a sunset against water, then Coate Water should be your first choice. Coate Water is ideal for those in a rush or carrying camera equipment because you can view it just a minute walk from the car park. It's ideal for photos too, as the setting is absolutely serene. Calm waters, a stunning sunset and beautiful reflections - what more can you ask for?! Postcode: SN3 6AA
