25ft Norway Spruce bringing festive joy to Newbridge Square

inSwindon BID is thrilled to announce that a 25ft Norway Spruce tree has been installed in the centre of Newbridge Square. Decorated with 3000 warm twinkling white lights and 100 red, green and white baubles, the tree is a welcome addition to the festive lights already installed throughout the town centre.

As a gateway to the town centre for many visitors, Newbridge Square is a busy walk-through from Swindon’s bus station and train station. Businesses in the area came together as sponsors and approached inSwindon BID to support and facilitate the installation of a Christmas tree.

The BID was delighted to support the project and worked with Fine Pines of Malmesbury and Swindon Borough Council to bring it to fruition.

The initiative was sponsored by prominent businesses from Newbridge Square: Octagon Cafe, Zurich, FIREM and Stagecoach, together with sponsorship support from inSwindon BID and Fine Pines of Malmesbury.

The project was managed by Angie Blackford, Marketing Coordinator for inSwindon BID Company Ltd who said: “We’re delighted with this project, working together with the businesses of Newbridge Square and Swindon Borough Council has made this possible. “It’s nice to be able to provide the festive spirit to not only the visitors of the town centre but also to hundreds of employees who work in the area”.

Sponsors of the project said:

Jon Flitcroft, owner of The Octagon, worked closely with Angie & Roxy from inSwindon BID Company on the project to secure sponsorship commitment from the local businesses. “First impressions count, and we want them to be memorable for our visitors. As the first main area they see when travelling into Swindon by bus and train, Newbridge Square plays an important role for the town centre. As a collective group of businesses and with the support of inSwindon BID Company and Fine Pines, we’re delighted to bring further festive cheer to the town centre.”

Jenny Shears from Zurich commented: “We’re really looking forward to bringing festive activities to Newbridge Square. We hope to see local community groups, carol singers and choirs take advantage of this stunning tree and create a wonderful atmosphere for visitors and our own employees.”

Rupert Cox, Managing Director of Stagecoach West, said: “This is so exciting for Swindon town centre. We bring hundreds of visitors into the bus station each day and we are confident that the Christmas tree will put our passengers into the festive spirit ahead of their shopping trip.”

Duncan Windsor from FIREM adds: “Christmas spirit in a town, and the cheer that comes from enjoying the festivities that it brings, can have a fantastic effect on its community-building. So, supporting this initiative was an easy decision for us because building a community is an investment in our town’s future.”

Managing Director of Fine Pines, Nick Durnford finishes with: “At Fine Pines we’re looking to support local businesses where we can and Christmas is such a special time that we were delighted to sponsor the tree and bring festive joy to Newbridge Square.”

As part of the Festival of Christmas, inSwindon BID is appealing to local community groups, carol singers and choirs who would like to bring their own festivities to the town and perform around the tree.  If you are a community group and would like to get involved, the BID would love to hear from you, contact inSwindon BID on 01793 485523 or email, [email protected].
