The Wiltshire School of Beauty and Holistic Therapy Gel Polish Manicure Accredited Diploma Review

I had the pleasure of being invited to review a course at the Wiltshire School of Beauty and Holistic Therapy at their Swindon school.

As a lady in her mid-forties and having never studied any beauty courses previously this was a little out of my comfort zone. It raised questions of -

"Am I too old to be studying a beauty course"

"Is it too late in life"

"will I feel out of place"

"will I be able to do it?"

The aim for me of choosing to study a beauty course was not to set up a business or for a change in career although the majority of students on the course were there, for this reason, it was simply to be able to do my own nails for friends and family as a hobby or for a little extra pocket money.

The first decision was choosing what course to do.

The school offers such a vast range in every area of beauty and holistic therapy and covers a complete range of expertise from absolute beginners such as myself through to advanced therapists looking to enhance their portfolio or learn new advancing skills in the industry.

I choose the gel polish course as the assignment could be done remotely and in my own time and the diploma was a one day course which was on a Sunday so suited both my full-time job and my life as a mum, so all boxes were ticked.

There were six ladies on this particular course and the course was run by the highly qualified and experienced Naomi who instantly put us all at ease.

The students were a complete range of experienced therapists and new therapists all with very different reasons for attending the course. For some such as myself, they were first-timers while others were on their sixth or seventh course.

We first went through all the knowledge and practical based exercises around health and safety, the importance of client consultations and the differences in nail treatments before going on to the anatomy of the hand and structure of the skin and nail. The size of the class was small enough that we all felt comfortable asking questions and gaining a full understanding.

After lunch.....I was paired up with a lovely student from the Green Labyrinth Beauty School, who was on her fifth-course. The training is delivered on-site at WSBHT but is Funded and delivered by Green Labyrinth.

This really is a fantastic route for students wanting to start off beauty courses or expand their skills. Initially, I was slightly nervous but Naomi quickly put me at ease and stayed with all the students throughout the practical exercise along with the other students who were all assisting each other. It really was a great team atmosphere. There was no rush in completing this part of the diploma and ample time was given for all students to practice on eachother.

After this, we went on to the final part of the diploma studying removal and aftercare. An opportunity was then given for questions and a recap on all that we had learnt before we started our written assignments.

There was a lovely feeling of team effort and individual achievement as we were awarded with our diplomas. The School really does have a personal touch and values every student both new or returning and strives to understand students' individual aspirations.

I have now got the bug and will be looking to return to complete the manicure course!! I would highly recommend The Wiltshire School of Beauty for either a career in the beauty industry or as a hobby. Do look into the learner loans available and remember you're never too old to try something new.

Thank you, Naomi, Tia and all the students who joined me on the course.
