Why did you choose an Apprenticeship over university?

Learning through an Apprenticeship is more hands-on, especially if you do an Apprenticeship in a construction trade area.

 

How did you decide which Apprenticeship to do?

Carpentry runs in the family, so it seemed like the most logical choice for me.

 

What are the benefits of doing an Apprenticeship?

You’re basically getting paid to learn.

 

What are you doing to develop within your role and company?

I am trying to build my confidence and develop my time management more effectively so I can work to meet deadlines.

 

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

I completed a full kitchen installation by myself which was challenging but really good experience.

 

How do you spend your free time?

I play snooker a lot and enjoy going out with my friends. 

 

What’s the hardest part about doing an Apprenticeship?

I am a practical person so I have found the theoretical learning really difficult. 

 

What has doing an Apprenticeship meant for you as a person? 

It’s given me the chance to build on myself and grow my existing skills.

 

What advice would you give someone making the decision to go to university or to do an Apprenticeship?

It’s hard to give advice if you don’t know what they want to do. I would say if you are a practical person who likes learning by doing things, then an Apprenticeship is perfect because we get to go out and learn at work.

 

What’s the one thing you will take away from your apprenticeship once it’s over?

All of the new things I have learnt.
