Apprenticeships on the Agenda at Swindon JobFest

Young people interested in kick-starting their career with an Apprenticeship should head down to STEAM on Thursday 30th April.

A number of employers attending Swindon JobFest 2015, such as BMW, Nationwide, Network Rail, Qinetiq, Aldi, Marriott Hotels, Honda, Atkins Global, Great Western Hospital and Monahans, will be on hand to talk about the Apprenticeship schemes within their organisations.

Apprenticeships can range from Business and IT to Youth Work and Health and Social Care, as well as Social Media and Digital Marketing to Electrical Engineering.

Paddy Bradley, Swindon Borough Council’s Head of Economy, Skills and Property, said: “There has never been a better time to consider an Apprenticeship and Swindon JobFest is the ideal chance for young people to find out what opportunities are available to them.

“Apprenticeships are a great way to gain new skills, knowledge and qualifications, while working and earning. You can also now gain qualifications to Degree level with Higher Apprenticeships.”

A total of 43 employers will be at Swindon JobFest 2015, which is being held on Thursday (30 April) at STEAM Museum in Kemble Drive. A further eight organisations will also be at the event to offer careers advice.

Organised by Swindon’s Employment and Apprenticeship Partnership, which is chaired by Nationwide and includes key partners such as New College, Swindon College, Outset, Honda and JobCentre Plus, Swindon JobFest will bring young people and employers together so they can showcase what they have to offer.

The event, which is being managed by Swindon Borough Council, will provide young people with the chance to meet and engage with employers within Swindon so they can find out about the career opportunities suitable to them, whether they are apprenticeships, internships, traineeships or full-time jobs.

There will also be the chance to win an iPad mini and other prizes on the day.  Running from 2pm until 7pm in the Great Hall at STEAM, JobFest will feature a range of workshops which will focus on how to write CVs, creative approaches to job hunting and top tips on interview techniques.

Seminars will run throughout the day covering topics such as apprenticeships, career opportunities in various industries, advice on how to set up a business as well as Q&As with industry professionals.
