Volunteer Brings Olympic Spirit To The Wyvern

Volunteer Stephen Milsom has returned to the Wyvern Theatre after a fortnight at London 2012’s Aquatics Centre having had “a wonderful time”.

Over 200,000 people applied to volunteer for the Olympics – half of which were interviewed to be Games Makers.

Stephen said “I wanted to experience the whole process of team building.”

“When I was there, Gordon Brown and his family came over to say hello one day – and another day, when doing the ticketing, 2 of One Direction, Liam and Louis, came to chat for about fifteen minutes.”

And what transferable skills will Milsom bring to the Wyvern?

“I know how to check tickets now,” he laughs. "I only started at the Wyvern a few months ago. I like the theatre atmosphere and since retiring have wanted to put something back in.”

The Wyvern Theatre has a thriving volunteer support team. Theatre Director Derek Aldridge says “It is so exciting that a member of the Wyvern Team was so close to the Olympic action. We rely on volunteers like Steve to support our work, our theatre and our community.”
