Tim Lang

A Swindon Festival of Literature event. The Professor of Food Policy at City University London, on reshaping the conditions for good health, presented in association with Swindon Climate Action Network.

  • What is public health?
  • Is it about the infrastructure for health – drains, water, food, and housing – that requires engineering and expert management?
  • Or is it to do with medicine and health education, provided by the State, to prevent us all harming ourselves through poor lifestyles?

Tim Lang and his co-author Geoff Rayner have produced a book, Ecological Public Health: reshaping the conditions for good health, and say that public health needs an overhaul chiefly by returning to and modernizing itself around ecological principles.

After the main talk and Q&A, this event will also include the launch of the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust Food Champions initiative, funded by the National Lottery; as well as a discussion session with a panel that will include author Tim Lang, Lorraine Stanton of Vowley Farm, Gerry Hannon of SCAN, and Sara Cundy of WWT.

SCAN is one of Swindon’s most active groups. It provides information on adverse climate change and how to combat it.  Call 07791 751877 email [email protected] for more information.
