Will Henry enjoys friendly rivalry with senior Swindon Town goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux

Despite yearning for a regular first-team berth, Will Henry has a good working relationship with Swindon Town number one, Lawrence Vigouroux.

Henry is Swindon's current number two behind ex-Tottenham and Liverpool custodian Vigouroux and, while the former is determined to overthrow the Chilean, Henry insists the goalkeeper camaraderie is a strong one.

Vigouroux, who is about to embark on his third season as Town's regular stopper, is a better goalkeeper due to the positive working relationship he has with Henry, Henry says, and the 19-year-old also takes a lot away from working with Vigouroux.

Henry got three first-team league outings last campaign and a further four in the EFL Trophy and he is hoping for more in the 2017-18 season.

Speaking after the 3-2 pre-season with over Chippenham, in which Henry played the full 90 minutes, the youngster said: "Obviously, I've set myself short-term, long-term (and) medium-term targets.

"Obviously game time is a massive one but I've got to be patient, remember my age, and be realistic. I'm not just there to sit (on the bench), I want to challenge for the number one spot but obviously we've got a great keeper with Lawrence.

"But I'm still willing to learn off him, I'm still enjoying that part of the game, it's just a patience game and making sure I'm keeping myself sharp.

"It's always been my mindset to never take the foot off the gas. I always want to challenge Loz for the number one spot, that's my mentality and I've got to be like that.

"I think that helps Loz as well because he knows I'm behind him on his toes so it's a great competitive relationship we have, but it's a great GK Union we've got with Dean (Thornton, the goalkeeping coach) as well."

Despite Henry's goals, there is no set plan as of yet with his new manager, David Flitcroft.

"We haven't really got a plan set out, to be fair. He's given me feedback on stuff I need to work on, stuff I've been doing well, but we just take it as each week goes and see where we go from there."
