Swindon Town sign Northampton Town winger Matty Taylor
Swindon Town have completed the signing of Northampton Town's Matty Taylor on a free transfer.
Taylor, 35, has signed a one-year deal at the County Ground after finding first-team opportunities at League One Northampton Town limited.
The ex-Portsmouth man began his career at Luton Town in the old second division and spent three years at the Hatters before moving to, and gaining promotion to the Premier League with, Portsmouth.
He spent six seasons at Fratton Park and gained a penchant for scoring long-range goals, as well as becoming a set piece specialist.
Bolton became Oxford-born Taylor's third club in 2007, and he was a Trotter for four seasons, all in the Premier League but dropped down to the Championship in 2011 to sign for West Ham.
The Hammers were promoted via the play-offs with Taylor in the team, with him scoring one goal, and he remained at Upton Park for two more seasons, making 76 appearances in total and he netted two league goals.
Taylor departed West Ham in 2014 for Burnley, then a newly-promoted Premier League outfit, but they were relegated and Taylor's second and final season there was a season in the Championship.
In the summer of 2016 he signed for League One Northampton and he scored seven goals in 43 games for the Cobblers in his debut campaign.
Taylor played one game this season for the Cobblers, in a 1-0 loss at Shrewsbury, but was replaced by ex-Swindon man Yaser Kasim in the 63rd minute.
He was also an unused substitute in the 1-0 home defeat to Fleetwood, but was left out of the squad altogether when Justin Edinburgh's men went down 4-1 at Charlton.
By signing for Town, Taylor has become the Robins' 12th addition this summer.
The transfer window shuts at 11pm on Thursday, August 31.
