Swindon Town sign midfielder Danny Rose until end of the season

SWINDON TOWN have confirmed their fourth signing of the winter transfer window as midfielder Danny Rose signed on a permanent deal with the Robins after departing League One leaders Portsmouth by mutual consent.

Signing on an initial six-month deal until the end of the season with an option to extend for a further year see’s Richie Wellens make his first permanent signing since taking over the managerial reigns earlier in the season.

Twice winning the League Two title with both Northampton Town and Portsmouth respectively, Rose’s arrival at SN1 comes at a crucial time as the clubs playoff hopes look increasingly more unlikely.

Plying his trade as a central midfielder, 30-year-old Rose will have to battle his way into a starting spot as he joins a host of midfielders already at the County Ground including Michael Doughty, Jak McCourt, James Dunne, Toumani Diagouraga, and Canice Carroll.

Speaking to the club’s official website following the move Rose said:

“I’m excited to join – after speaking to the Gaffer [Richie Wellens[ and Hunty [Noel Hunt], I’m really excited about joining the project and trying to get this club back into League One.”

“It’s a great place to play football and I’m familiar with the community and the passion of the fans so I know how good it could get.

“I spoke to Nathan Thompson, who I’m good friends with, and he had nothing but good things to say about the club. That cemented the decision to come here.”

Town assistant manager Noel Hunt reciprocated the words of Rose saying:

“He’s someone I know very well – a fantastic pro with a great attitude on and off the field. The biggest thing for us is that he’s a winner and has a winning mentality.”

“He’s won this league twice and we still think the best is yet to come with him.”

“With his ability on the ball and work rate, he’s a perfect fit for us going forward.”
