Swindon Town manager David Flitcroft wants more respect for his team following Yeovil win

Swindon Town boss David Flitcroft has called for more backing from the town's local press following Saturday's 2-1 win at Yeovil Town.

Second-half goals from loanee pair Kellan Gordon (Derby) and Keshi Anderson (Crystal Palace) got Swindon the three points at Yeovil after Rhys Brown's goal had the Glovers 1-0 up after just four minutes.

In doing so, Swindon have now won seven of their nine away matches in the league alone this season, something Flitcroft believes should be getting more fanfare from those that report on the Wiltshire outfit.

"I keep saying it. I think there is a very short-termism to a lot of the press around Swindon and what we're trying to do this season. That's been so consistent this season.

"We're trying to protect what's probably the best away form in the country. Probably people might start giving this team a bit more respect - what these players do, what the group do for each other.

"But I've seen a team galvanised by spirit, galvanised by protecting something."

Flitcroft then moved on to talking about bottom-of-the-table Chesterfield, who Swindon drew 2-2 with on Tuesday after a last-second penalty by top scorer Luke Norris.

"Chesterfield have beaten Exeter today, they'll keep taking points off everyone because they're a good team but the way it was put over was this rock-bottom, terrible team, that we only gained a point, so then we've had to come here again and fight for our lives and we've done that fantastically well.

"Like I said, people inside Swindon and certainly the press might starting giving us a bit more respect overall."

Swindon are on the road again on Tuesday, as they face the long trip to Grimsby Town.

The Robins remained fifth despite the win on Saturday and are two points adrift of the top three and five behind first-place Notts County.
