Swindon Town make QPR goalkeeper their first signing of the summer

Swindon Town have made their first addition of the summer by adding QPR goalkeeper Murphy Mahoney on loan for the season.

The 21-year-old has come through the academy system at Loftus Road, playing twice for the first team during the 2021/22 season.

The Reading-born stopper has also had three loan spells in Non-League, amassing 15 appearances across three loan spells at Welling United, Bath City, and Stratford Town.

Speaking to Town’s Media Team, Murphy said: “I am absolutely delighted to be here and ever since I knew there was interest from Swindon, I was just itching to get down here and now I’m buzzing to be here.”

“Michael [Flynn] was a massive influence in coming to Swindon, and ever since I had conversations with the Manager and Mildy, I just knew I wanted to be a part of it.”

Mahoney played twice for QPR, against Preston North End and Sheffield United, both times alongside Town skipper Charlie Austin.

Town’s Manager, Michael Flynn, said: “Murphy is someone I tracked whilst I was at Walsall. I’ve watched a lot of his games and his attitude is unbelievable.

"He has played Championship games and a few loan spells and he is highly thought of at Queens Park Rangers and Charlie remembers him from his spell at Loftus Road.”
