Swindon Town boss David Flitcroft rues "the disparity" in the club's form at home

As a result of Swindon's 1-0 defeat at home to Newport on Saturday, Town manager David Flitcroft was again forced to reflect on the club's poor record at the County Ground.

Swindon have now won just three of their 10 league matches at home this season and dropped to eighth from fifth after a late header from Ben Tozer made it two defeats on the bounce for the Robins.

This is a stark difference to the club's away record, which was the best in the Football League prior to the 3-2 loss at Grimsby on Tuesday night.

Town never even looked like scoring when Newport came to Wiltshire as County keeper Joe Day did not have a single significant save to make over the course of the 90 minutes.

"There is a disparity in the home form," Flitcroft conceded.

"We've got to keep assessing it and come up with answers to win football matches away from home and at home.

"I'm bitterly disappointed that we've not been able to make more of an impression today on Newport.

"It's an individual responsibility at home that we now need to focus on and make sure the players out there want to play at home and can do that in a manner that I expect.

"That's something that we'll be looking long and hard at over the next month.

"I'm not going to ignore it or say it's not there - it is. We've got to come up with that solution. The players have got to feel comfy at home and express themselves and feel as though they do want the responsibility and making things happen.

"It's no good having a late rally when you're 1-0 down to try that.

"We're still assessing the squad, still assessing where we are. If we have to recruit [new players in January] that's what we'll be looking at."

Flitcroft will be pleased that Swindon do not have a home game for a while now, with the next game at the County Ground now until December 15.

Swindon are now five points off the top three and nine adrift of top-of-the-table Luton.
