Swindon Town appoint Neil McDonald as assistant manager

Neil McDonald has been announced as Swindon Town's new assistant manager to Phil Brown, following the departure of Brian Horton.

McDonald has signed an undisclosed-length deal at Swindon to be the assistant manager at the club, despite being odds-on favourite to be the manager of fellow League Two club Carlisle United, who are without a boss following Keith Curle's decision to leave the club.

Phil Brown told the club website that "Neil is someone who has managed, played, coached and assisted at the highest level for a number of years.

"He's an expert on players, he knows how to spot a player, he can certainly coach and he's one of the best coaches I've ever worked with.

"He keeps me on my toes and it is almost like a competition now competing for the best coaching sessions!

"I'm absolutely delighted.

"Hopefully the players will look forward to coming in and working under him."

McDonald and Brown worked together at Bolton under Sam Allardyce and pro-license holder McDonald has also held assistant manager positions at the likes of West Ham and Hull City.
