Swindon Town add Sheffield United defender Chris Hussey to their ranks

Swindon Town have made Sheffield United left-back Chris Hussey their seventh signing of the summer transfer window.

Hussey, 28, joins the club on a season-long loan from the Blades and is therefore the first man Swindon have brought in on a temporary basis. As a Football League club, Town are permitted to name five loanees in their matchday squad of 18.

Swindon beat a number of League One clubs to the signing of Hussey, with Blackpool, Plymouth and Portsmouth also keen.

After beginning his professional career at AFC Wimbledon in 2007, where he made over 70 appearances for the Dons and gained back-to-back promotion with the Phoenix club, he moved to Coventry in 2009, who were then of the Championship.

He was at the Ricoh Arena for four years, but suffered relegation in season three and he stuck around for a year in League One with the Sky Blues.

A return to then-League Two AFC Wimbledon followed in January 2013, as did a further 19 matches, but he was released that summer and signed for Burton Albion where he played 26 games, scoring once.

In March 2014 he signed a short-term loan deal at Bury and that move became permanent in the summer and, over the course of two years, he played a further 79 matches in addition to the previous 11 during the loan spell.

Hussey left Bury for Sheffield United last summer for an undisclosed fee and played 11 games as the Blades were promoted from League One.

Swindon boss David Flitcroft worked with Hussey while the pair were at Bury.
