Swindon Robins play-off berth not yet secured

The Swindon Robins' wait to secure a place in the 2016 Elite League play-offs continues as they went down 50-42 at Belle Vue.

Just one point is needed for the Robins to guarentee a spot in this year's play-offs, but they now have only one game left - Lakeside at home on Friday night.

Swindon started well at Belle Vue last night, as they won the first heat 5-1 through Jason Doyle and Justin Sedgman finishing first and third respectively in the opening race.

Belle Vue recorded a 5-1 of their own, however, to get the scores level again immediately.

It was tied at 9-9 after heat three, but the hosts soon found themselves in the lead as they recorded their second perfect score of the night in the fourth heat.

The lead was extended in heat five, as Belle Vue won that won 4-2 and the Robins failed to close gap in the following heat, as that was tied 3-3.

Heat number seven was brighter though - the Robins' Rohan Tungate won the race and Josh Grajczonek finished third to secure a 4-2 win.

After a drawn eigth heat, Belle Vue recorded a third 5-1 to extend their lead to eight points as the result started to get away from the Robins. Another big blow came in the following heat, as another maximum was earned by the Aces to make it 36-24.

Tungate had the chance to gain double points in heat 11, but did not come away victorious as the Robins lost 5-3.

Swindon hopes of gaining what would have been the biggest of losing points faded into obscurity in heat 13 thanks to Belle Vue's last maximum.

It is do-or-die against Lakeside on Friday.
