Scott Lindsey said that Swindon did not show the commitment to get a win against Walsall

Scott Lindsey said that Swindon Town lacked the commitment to get more out of the game in their 2-1 defeat against Walsall. Total Sport’s Joe Acklam spoke to the head coach after the game.

Swindon took the lead through Ellis Iandolo, but goals in stoppage time in both halves through Tom Knowles and Manny Monthe saw Town fall to a third defeat in five.

Lindsey felt that Swindon lacked the belief which they showed against Barrow nine days ago and so failed to live up to the standards he expects.

He said: “I think that we were poor today, I don’t think that we fully committed to the game.

“I didn’t feel as if we played with the swagger that we had last week, we said to the players that it was the same team that went to Barrow, who are fourth in the league with a real swagger and belief.

“And today we didn’t seem to have that spark, we didn’t seem to have that real kind of energy to go on and play.

“We just didn’t play as well as we have done in past games, and it is the first time that I have felt that way, where we have not played at the level I expect.

“We didn’t pass the ball as well as we have, we had players not wanting to get into spaces and get on the ball, and because of that we didn’t create loads of chances again.

“Do I feel that the performance deserved the hostile response? No I don’t think it deserved that, but it is what it is.”

Having conceded twice from set pieces, Lindsey has said he will need to reinforce the message ahead of Thursday’s game with set piece experts Northampton.

He said: “It is very frustrating to concede from two corners as it we have been quite good on that so  to concede two in that manner is disappointing.

“We work extremely hard on whose job is what and then we didn’t deal with two moments when it came down to it.

“We had [Frazer] Blake-Tracy, who heads pretty much everything that comes into the box, off the pitch at that moment.

“But we still have players on the pitch that you would hope go and head the ball and we didn’t do it properly and they have scored as a consequence.

“We will be in tomorrow and we will be working straight away on things and then working again the next day.

“So hopefully by kick-off time at Northampton we will be ready to go again.”
