Scott Lindsey said Swindon looked like a team on a bad run against Wimbledon

Scott Lindsey said that Swindon looked like they were affected by their previous two results in their 0-0 draw against Wimbledon. Total Sport’s Joe Acklam spoke with the head coach after the match.

Swindon once again managed to control the match and look strong, but failed to find that cutting edge when it came down to it.

Lindsey said his team looked hesitant and nervous off the back of two consecutive defeats and this caused their struggles in front of goal.

He said: “We look like a team that have lost the last two, we look a bit bruised, and a little low in confidence to go and win the game.

“We have a number of injuries, but I thought we had a team out there that was capable of winning the game.

“We didn’t create a lot of clear cut chances or shots on target, and that is something we are mindful of and we are working really hard to improve on that.

“We have been let down by a poor decision by the referee, but on the whole did we do enough to win the game? Probably not.

“I think we have tried to make us a bit more aggressive in the final third, but there has been a few things missing in past games.

“Our decision making needs to improve, the aggression to get on the end of things needs to improve, our composure in front of goal needs to improve.”

Some fans have been critical about the low number of shots on target in recent weeks, but Lindsey said that that is not the fairest representation of their performance.

He said: “We look at xG more than shots on target, shots on target can be a poor stat at times and xG is more indicative.

“If you take Crewe for example, our best two chances in that game were off target, when the ball went down the side and Gladwin crossed it in and Jephcott rattled the bar with a header.

“That counts as off target, but is arguably the best chance of the game, the second best chance of the game the ‘keeper makes a save from the right, he spills it to Ellis Iandolo, and he blasts the second one over the bar, which was a real clear chance.

“Arguably the best two chances were those two, so I think the best way of reading it is xG rather than that.”
