Scott Lindsey does not feel the addition of Charlie Austin adds any extra pressure on him

Scott Lindsey feels that the addition of Charlie Austin can only help him following the confirmation of his return last week. Total Sport’s Joe Acklam spoke to Scott Lindsey ahead of Swindon’s defeat against Colchester.

Austin returned to the County Ground where his professional career started in 2009 following the end of his six month spell with Brisbane Roar, which came to an end due to family reasons.

Lindsey waved away suggestions that bringing in a player of Austin’s calibre would add any pressure and that he could only help him to succeed.

He said: “We are obviously delighted to have him [Austin] on board, he is a legend here anyway and then went on and had an unbelievable career and now he is back.

“I am really delighted, I think he is going to really add some goals and some experience, so I am really pleased.

“Initial chats have been realty positive, and he is really bright around the place.

“I think his leadership is vital because of the group that we have got, we have a very young group, we have a sprinkling of experience in terms of Ben Gladwin, Angus MacDonald, Jonny Williams, and you could probably add Ellis Iandolo and Louis Reed into that, and Mathieu Baudry obviously.

“When you have a young group it is vital that you have that and all the experienced players we have are really good characters and I am sure Charlie will add to that.

“He joined in training today, albeit it was very minimal what we had to do, we walked through the team shape, how we see things going for us tomorrow and where we feel the spaces are and Charlie joined in with that, in terms of being the opposition.

“I think it is important we integrate him straight in, but then we have a two week window to the next game and we are hopeful that we will get the international clearance in time for him to play in that game.

“Nothing changes in my mind, he was out in Australia where Clem [Morfuni] lives, so logistically it was done from that point of view.

“It doesn’t add any pressure on me, if anything I am rubbing my hands even more so for the fact that I have a player like this in the squad.”
