PRESS CONFERENCE LIVE: Bradford City v Swindon Town

Good morning Swindon fans and welcome back to another FRiday press conference blog with Total Sport Swindon's Ryan Walker as he speaks to Swindon Town boss Ben Garner. Swindon travel to face Mark Hughes' Bradford City in League Two tomorrow afternoon seeking to get back on the winning track.

9:04AM

That concludes today's press conference. Thank you for joining us.

9:03AM

Garner on lack of opportunities for English managers:

"Possibly at times [there is lack of opportunities in the Premier League]. I think there could be more opportunities for English and British managers in this country and it is probably becoming harder and harder if I'm honest. Having worked at that level as a first-team coach and an Assistant Coach, for me could I work at that level? Absolutely. I wouldn't have any hesitation with that.

"The higher you work the better resources you get and in terms of how I like to play the game that's only beneficial. There are numerous English managers in lower divisions that I think given the right opportunities could do well in the Championship and the Premier League. It's the same with young players and you need that opportunity to showcase what you can do and have faith in you.

"It is becoming harder and with the increase in money in the top levels there is greater damage if you don't succeed and clubs seem to go with the safest option and are less likely to take a risk on a younger manager or manager who hasn't worked at the top level before. In many ways working in League One and League Two is more difficult than the Premier League from my experience with some of the challenges you have. There are a lot of good coaches in this country that with the right opportunity would flourish and do well."

8:58AM

Garner on Iandolo's versatility:

"Versatility is a great attribute and Ellis has got that. He is a fantastic character and if we asked him to go in goal he would throw the gloves on and do it. He's all about the team all the time and I have been really pleased with him in midfield. He has a good mix of assets with his physicality and quality on the ball and he is having a great season. This is his best season and he is one of our own players and I am really pleased with him."

8:56AM

Garner on Swindon maintaining a late run:

"I think we have the potential to do that and on our day if we perform then we can beat any team in this division and I think we have shown that home and away. I'm disappointed it's not four wins from four and watching the game back we should have won the game. If we can make it four wins from five then that's a good run and If we can keep momentum over the next five games I will be really please as we can finish this season strongly."

8:48AM

Garner on Mandela Egbo:

"He is a young player I worked with at Crustal Palace and came back from America late November and is looking for his next move. He is having conversations with clubs abroad and has been training with us since January. If I didn't have players in those positions I would look to sign him."

8:45AM

Garner on Swindon not losing a game after a full weeks training:

"That's an interesting statistic and we like a full week in the training ground. We try to get the team to win games and also improve and develop players. Across a full week we have more time to do that. If you have a younger squad at any level then you benefit from having that training time."

8:43AM

Garner on turnover of managers in League Two:

"It always surprises me because if you want to build something then you need time and you can't do that with the time some managers is given. It would be nice for the industry to see more managers and staff given more time. The remit coming in here was a medium to long term aim and I don't feel any pressure from above as I put my pressure on myself. We have done well in the short time and had several meetings yesterday about the long term moving forward. We will keep trying to improve."

8:40AM

Garner on Bradford:

"I think they have a good squad and you look at them at the start of the season I thought they could challenge at the top of the league. They still have good quality and have an attack with four or five higher level players. Mark Hughes is a real coup for the club and it is a challenge we are really looking forward to."

8:39AM

Garner on Bradford crowd size:

"For me personally I think the bigger the crowd the bigger the occasion and the more I enjoy that. I think it can be more of a challenge with a small crowd and Saturday will be a great atmosphere. If we go and play well then that impacts everything and we can only control what we do on the pitch."

8:38AM

Garner on Rob Hunt 100th appearance:

"The big thing with Rob is consistency and his levels across games are very consistent. He has had very few poor games across his career, a great professional, and is very versatile which is a massive strength. Since November onwards he has been our most consistent performer. H trains really well and that was the reason for him being made Captain."

8:36AM

Garner on players fatigue:

"I don't think there is fatigue in that sense but Louie Barry for example has never played Saturday-Tuesday before. The only way to acclimatise to that is to do it. That's what we are doing with the younger players in the group and with time that improves. Jake O'Brien has handled that really well and has shown he is resilient and improving and that's what we want. We have another big run of games and we are better prepared for this set of games and once we do that the season settles down a little bit."

8:35AM

Garner on

"This has been a really good week for us because we haven't had a massive amount of training time since Christmas and any full week is great. This week has been really beneficial and I think it will help us now going into the next run of games. We've crammed a lot of work in as we wanted to make full use of the week and as a coach you sometimes have to reinforce things after Christmas and give new players to the club that information."

8:33AM

Garner on Mitchell-Lawson:

"Anyone getting an opportunity needs to take it and Ricky Aguiar has been an example of that. If they come in and do a job then they are in with a shout of keeping that place."

8:32AM

Garner on Jack Payne:

"Every player brings their own strength and attributes and `jack has been brilliant for us this season. What impressed me is his attitude and professionalism and any team would miss JAck Payne. He will be a big player for us between now and the end of the season."

8:31AM

Garner on injuries:

"Jack Payne has had a really good week and is back in the squad and we are really pleased with that. Louie Barry injured his ankle last week and he won't be available this week. Harry McKirdy will need an injection into his ankle at some point but at the moment he can manage that and keep playing."
