Website 0330 002 1993Other than what I asked Morris about, which was if the players are still responding to what he is asking and why Wakeling was playing at wing-back:
The players are not in the building yet, so that will be all for today.
Jody Morris on Lampard to Chelsea:
I didn't watch yesterday. I spoke to him when he went back in and I want him to do well. It is my club and I want him to do well, but I have more important things to worry about.
Jody Morris on who has impressed him:
I wouldn't single out individuals. There are places where everyone can do better and we need to be pushing each other to try and do that.
Jody Morris on fixture congestion:
I think there are two ways to look at it. Either it is a tough time with lots of games, before we went into this I spoke with the players about using the squad. But when it is not going well, the type of people that want the next game are the ones that you want. After the Mansfield game, the first thing I thought was we need a game. Forget training as you can't do much in the time. We will have a meeting, but it is more about looking forward to who wants to put it right.
Jody Morris on the players:
At half-time, one thing that bothered me the most was that it looked like it didn't bother them enough. Yesterday was different as you were showing them things that were miles away from being good enough. If you are having conversations with the players and they disagree then you get an indication, but we had 45 clips of things that were wrong. I would rather see it in the moment that it bothers people. That is not something I could aim at them before, but I didn't like what I saw.
Jody Morris on Tranmere:
We went into Mansfield and they were on a poor run before Crawley. I spoke to Clough about it and in this league everyone is going through poor runs. At this level with individual errors it is a little bit more frequent. Tranmere like to play the right way and it was similar to us where they have been punished. It doesn't ,atter what run they are on as something must change eventually.
Jody Morris on Clayton:
Clayton has had a fairly up and down spell, but I am not ruling him out forever. I pick a team to win games that I feel is more suited and it happens that last week we played a three and I chose Tomlinson which he is more than capable. If we are looking at changes, does Lavinier cover more spaces and allow other people to impact things. We had four defenders on the pitch, so we could change more easily.
Jody Morris on how challenging this is:
It is always difficult whether you are a player or a manager. I have played with and coached people I didn't think were as bothered as me and I have made it clear that this sort of thing should get to you. I won't lie and say this doesn't frustrate me, but this is part of football. It is no consolation but there have been large chunks where we have been decent. We need to try and navigate our way through games better and not conceded quickly. The amount of late goals is a worry, but that is a mentality thing. Fitness is not the cause, if it was I would say that. The numbers don't dip which proves it is a mentality thing. It is a clear pattern. It has happened far too often and at costly times, but if you don't have much experience this can happen. Mansfield had nearly seven times as many starts as us, not that that is any excuse. We still should have done better and we have proven that by dominating a lot of those games.
Jody Morris on selections:
I think it can work in different ways. The problem with so many not performing, how many do you change? If it is two or three that are obvious then that is easy. You still need to take into account that you can't overhaul a whole team. I feel that with so many underperforming, maybe they should all go out an rectify it. On a bad run, selection is the worst type of headache. That is my job and whatever game we go into I will always pick the team I feel is right.
I thought we had an honest and open meeting yesterday where I want to show them what I felt was poor about the game. I know the players knew that and there wasn't much coming back from them. It is good when players recognise that, but all you want is for them to put it right. Thankfully we get a game quickly to get it right and we have to attack this and they need to realise they will have plenty more of these runs. For many this is their first season and the quicker you get out of them the less you remember them. The only way to get out is working hard.
Jody Morris on injuries:
We are waiting on Khan, to see if he is ok. He has a problem in his glut, but there are no new injuries.
Jody Morris has apparently gone missing as we wait to get started *insert joke about his tenure so far*
Happy Easter everyone. I am spending mine at the County Ground talking about a game which means nothing. Keep your comments about what I have going on in my life to a minimum. Tranmere are the opponents on Easter Monday, who are without a win in six, but I am sure Swindon can fix that.
