PRESS CONFERENCE LIVE: Swindon v Stockport County

Follow along with live updates as Jody Morris speaks to the press ahead of Swindon Town's clash with Stockport County. Total Sports' Joe Acklam reports live from the press conference.

2:21PM

That is all from today, see you on Saturday.

2:20PM

I asked Khan about if he had ever considered not doing Ramadan as a player:

  • No, as Islam is first for me. I will always be a Muslim, but not always a football player.
2:18PM

Saidou Khan on keeping the season alive:

We all know what we want to acheive. One thing we can't do is let external factors impact us. If you know what you want then you have to take it. Control what you can control and don't panic looking at the league table. Stay away from that and just put together performances.

2:17PM

Saidou Khan on coming back:

Set pieces are a collective thing. We have worked hard this week but sometimes things go against you and happen in bunches. You could have ten corners and not score and then sometimes every cross goes in. We have to control what we can control, don't give free headers or don't give set pieces away and that is what we are trying to do.

2:16PM

Saidou Khan on his discipline:

I don't want to go into detail, but if you look at my yellow they are debateable. Against Gillingham I was fouled before the booking. The Salford one I don't agree with it. I shouldn't have reacted as nothing good will come from it, but a five game ban is harsh. For a ref to review it afterwards and give that a ban, I don't agree with it. If I didn't react then I would have played, but now I have to sit out.

2:15PM

Saidou Khan on his faith:

You can define it in different ways. My faith is number one for me in how I live. No one is perfect but I try and live by the guidelines of Islam. It keeps me grounded, I have been suspended and Islam has helped me see that everything happens for a reason and without it I would feel differently right now.

2:14PM

Saidou Khan on breaking his fast in games:

I spoke to George and he said he would put a request in for teams we are playing to give us three minutes on the sideline. Fruit, water or whatever as it can improve performance. Last season it was difficult as I had to play through it and we had to break our fast later.

2:13PM

Saidou Khan on Ramadan:

People look at it and think you can't eat or drink but there is more to it. It is more about getting together as a family and worshipping. As an athlete it takes a few days to get used to. I enjoy it a lot as it makes me mentally stronger that I can sacrifice things that I think I need. It makes me feel stronger.

It is hard to explain but it keeps you away from bad habits. When you are hungry and thirsty you don't think about a lot else.

It balances itself out as on a normal basis, you wake up at 3am to have a meal. When I break my fast, I try to eat three meals in the evening to have energy. My body fat goes down a lot, but your body adapts to it. Usually I couldn't play without a pre-match meal but shortly afterwards I can.

2:10PM

Saidou Khan is now with us

2:00PM

Slow eater, I guess.

1:43PM

There will be 15-20 interlude for the players interview, it is likely to be Darcy.

1:40PM

I asked Morris about his experience of fixing set pieces at Chelsea and Shade's call-up:

  • It wasn't my area at Chelsea, but we have been thinking about all the different ways to help it
  • Selfishly we would like to have him, but I would never try and talk a player out of it
1:32PM

Jody Morris on Khan:

When you can pick players based off the opposition then that is a good place, but if players aren't performing that can override that. However many games it is FBT and Khan have missed, those two would play whatever and then it is how you patch up the other areas. We know we aren't going to be the biggest midfield, but the smaller ones that have played, the second balls and dominating play hasn't been the worst even if it less balanced.

1:30PM

Jody Morris on the run-in:

I still don't think you ever adjust, I always want to set-up on the front foot. I would rather be solid on the front foot and durther up the pitch. The best way to create chances is the way I want to play, if we had a bigger forward then maybe we could look at that. I want us to be varied in how we attack. We should have won the last three I think, despite some performances, but instead we have two points. The more games go by the less chance we have, but if we play like Rochdale then we don't deserve to be anywhere near. I am hoping that was a blip. Going hell for leather and leaving ourselves vulnerable is now what I want anyway.

1:28PM

Jody Morris on physicality:

Unless anyone has a special ingredient for muscles, height, pace and power. You can prepare as much s you like and if you work as a team then that comes into play. You have to look after the ball better, if you can take that physicality away then that is a big bonus. Every team has challenges as when you look at us we are nowhere near the top half for age and size, so you have to lean on what you do have and the hunger of young players. If they are hungry enough they can nullify them.

1:26PM

Jody Morris on "going Conte":

I didn't speak too much after the game. Sometimes ranting and raving is needed but when you are disappointed, I don't find the need to. I spent the whole build-up praising how well they were doing, so it was more disappointment. There are elements of coaches and staff to be brutally honest and moments where you don't need to say anything. They knew they underperformed and that we felt that and that should be enough. If you have a group that want to improve then they should be gagging for the next game to put it right. Doing that against Stockport would be huge. I like looking at teams who look like a real team and they look like they can hurt you from all areas.

1:24PM

Jody Morris on performance:

I would like a big improvement. To get anything against Stockport it will have to as it is a bigger test than we got at Rochdale. We have to make sure we don't gift goals, opportunities and momentum as Stockport will punish you. They are a very rounded team and if we are not at it then we are in trouble.

1:23PM

Jody Morris on injuries:

McEachran is alright. I am not sure what happened in the game with his calf, but it is fine and he has trained. There are no new injuries. Tomlinson has taken part in training, we will make a decision on whether he can be involved. FBT has been in full sessions too, so there will be a decision on both.

If FBT can be involved it is a huge lift, the fact we are going to lose a player of his calibre, his leadership and aerial ability. As long as he is fit enough and can play then it is a huge boost. Him and Khan are huge misses in leadership and quality. Missing players like that in this group is big.

1:20PM

Jody Morris on Shade:

It is good for him. Whenever you get the chance to play for your country you should be proud. He has chosen to take that one and hopefully contribute, It won't be the worst thing for him either if he can play.

1:20PM

Jody Morris on Kadji:

I have a good dialogue with Jason Euell, he's a friend of mine and them as a parent club are always looking at the amount he is playing. They asked if we would consider letting him get some minutes, so I thought because he hasn't played that much it would be good. He played 45 minutes and then trained on the Tuesday, so he hasn't missed anything here.

Of late Kadji knows he can be doing more. Both on the training pitch is the main area as he has lacked some minutes. Young players are going to get these moments. After the game he played at the weekend he has trained really well. It is difficult for people on their first loan and with little niggling injuries and illnesses that he has had it it hard. He knows he can do more, but he is training well. It is about learning for everyone, for him playing football and playing himself.

1:16PM

Jody Morris is here.

1:14PM

We are up in the John Trollope suite now waiting for Morris to emerge.

12:59PM

On the way in I believe I spotted George McEachran returning from training, so that feels like a good sign after he went off injured at the weekend. We will obviously get a proper injury update once we get going.

12:58PM

Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the press conference, which is scheduled to start in just over 15 minutes but I will believe that when I see it. Swindon have gone a whopping five days without conceding from a corner in stoppage time, so good work all around there.
