PRESS CONFERENCE LIVE: Swindon v Mansfield Town

Follow along with live updates as Jody Morris speaks to the press ahead of Swindon Town's clash with Mansfield Town. Total Sports' Joe Acklam reports live from the press conference.

10:22AM

That is all from today, we will be back tomorrow for the game.

10:22AM

I asked Morris about his relationship with SDM and if fringe players will be given a chance:

  • I get on well with him (largely avoided talking about him)
  • "I won't be giving about appearances for charity"
10:20AM

There will be no player.

10:14AM

Jody Morris on contracts:

Conversations are being had. Not everything is finalised or in place. There are still things to be sorted out.

10:14AM

Jody Morris on Mansfield's record against Swindon:

I think it is hard to read into history as the league is always up and down. I am more interested in recent history, we are trying to predict how they will play and when you watch them and they get an uplift from a switch. It does make it harder for us to know what they will do. That is the side I look at, more than their record here.

10:12AM

Jody Morris on if he has taken enough responsibility for performances:

No, the way I speak to the players is different to how I speak to you. If there are things you can reflect on and be self-critical then I do it. I do it every day. Ultimately the decisions I have made were for a reason. If you analyse games, I would like to know where you think changes need to be made from me. *Jonny shits himself*. When you concede two goals and things repeat themselves, then you are showing the players what the danger is. That is why I asked for an example, where should I be protecting the players?

10:09AM

Jody Morris on Mansfield:

They are going to be high on confidence after the last game, but when you get a win after a slight change in set-up then who knows what they will do. Clough is an experienced manager and whatever they bring will be challenging. WE need to focus on getting the right result and performance for the fans. It is bad enough for us when this stuff happens, but it is worse for the fans as they have paid their money and taken their time to be there. Hopefully then fans are in a good mood and give us a good atmosphere as if we are to get out of this rut we will need them.

10:07AM

Jody Morris on improving the group:

They will always get energy from me as it is my job. I like trying to improve players, but at the moment I am not thinking about next season, I am thinking about Mansfield. For us to think about next year is unprofessional. There are times when you have to do that, but we are on a poor run and we need to focus on getting results.

10:06AM

Jody Morris on being 23rd in the form table:

I can only judge since I have been here. I knew there were problems before, but you get that with this league. I haven't looked for a while and then you see and teams surprise you. The form has not been good enough, but I think the length of performing well in a game has improved, but that doesn't give you any comfort when you concede late. That takes things out of you confidence-wise and we looked like that after 75 minutes on Saturday. We will be talking about how to deal with that. It is hard to eradicate things when a group is low on confidence and fragile at the end of games.

10:04AM

Jody Morris on getting over it:

There are a lot of parts of that game I wouldn't mind seeing again. Certain passages we were very good, but I would like us to take chances to punish teams. The longer it goes without us extending a lead or when teams make changes towards the end of game, if we have punished teams then we might not be as nervous.

10:03AM

Jody Morris on the journey back:

Not great. A lot of discussion from staff as we were watching the game back. We were more in control in the second half than it felt like and you are reminded of the chances you didn't take. Extremely disappointed coach journey, as it should be.

I prefer the players to leave them to it on the coach. I like to leave the speaking in the dressing room and then talk afterwards.

10:01AM

Jody Morris on Brann:

He is very close to maybe getting some game time, but not quite there yet. He is slowly getting back to full training, he hasn't done everything yet. He is doing well and I have been pleased with him.

10:00AM

Jody Morris on Wakeling:

Since I have been here, Wakeling has been a huge threat and has helped us a lot.

10:00AM

Jody Morris on injuries:

I am hoping Darcy is fine, he came through training yesterday but he is the only one we would be concerned about. We haven't done too much from a physical aspect, but hopefully he is fine.

9:59AM

We are in the meeting now

9:52AM

I imagine we won't have a player again with this being a virtual press conference.

9:48AM

This game might not mean anything for Swindon, but it is pretty key for Mansfield. They are two points behind Salford City in 8th right now, so they will have plenty of motivation to take all three points, which doubtless they will do in the final ten minutes.

9:42AM

I don't know about what the others will be focussing on, but this press conference will likely set a new record for least focus on the team we are playing. And devoted followers of these and listeners to The Presser will know, that will take some doing.

9:36AM

Good morning everyone. The season is over but we are still doing these, so congratulations if you are still looking out for what happens in the press conferences, you either have too much time or are very dedicated.
