PRESS CONFERENCE LIVE: Swindon v Grimsby Town

Live updates as Gavin Gunning speaks to the press ahead of Swindon Town hosting Grimsby Town in League Two. Total Sport's Joe Acklam reports live from the press conference.

3:58PM

That is all from today. Roll on the Return of the King on Saturday.

3:57PM

Luke Jephcott on staying here:

So far this has been a good fit. I have been enjoying my football, but it is up in the air. I will looking at the end of the season.

3:56PM

Luke Jephcott on showcasing himself:

I think there have been games when I could and some went differently to how we expected. It has been up and down, but that is how tough the game has been.

I think I have to be patient and trust the people behind me. We might not have created hundreds of opportunities, but there are chances.

3:54PM

Luke Jephcott on Bale:

I think he had more to offer, but he has had an incredible player. Arguably the greatest British of all time in trophies and on the eye, he was amazing. He has definitely helped Wales.

3:53PM

Luke Jephcott on his future:

Your guess is as good as mine at the minute. It is all up in the air, but I am not focusing on it too much.

3:53PM

Luke Jephcott on Gunning:

They have taken it in their stride and everyone knows them. It has been familiar and a good week.

3:52PM

Luke Jephcott on the crowd:

With his return and also the buzz has to come from us playing. We have to get the fans excited and we should be able to do that.

3:52PM

Luke Jephcott on Austin:

He looks very sharp and is a very good finisher. We are all happy he is here and he is someone I can learn from. I should be able to pick things up. He has settled in well, not been here long, but he gets involved. He always wants competition in training.

3:51PM

Luke Jephcott on service:

In one game you could have 20 chances and in another two. We work on it in training and sometimes it doesn't go to plan.

3:50PM

Luke Jephcott on form:

It is a tough one to answer. Every team goes through a dip in form, but in the games we have played we have showed good character.

3:49PM

Luke Jephcott on Lindsey leaving:

We are still adjusting to it. I came in and he was already here and we don't know what is going on with the manager. It is part of the industry, it happens with players as well. so it comes with the job. I have made lots of friends here, but it could all change.

3:37PM

We should have a player, we are just waiting to find out who is around.

3:30PM

My lord Gavin Gunning speaks fast. I miss Lindsey, he was easy to transcribe in real time.

3:30PM

I asked Gunning on if he was ever going to Crawley and what he can do as an interim:

  • "No."
  • There is no point in reinventing the wheel, you can tinker with things, but you are not going to make huge changes.
3:28PM

Gavin Gunning on keeping things insular:

I get paid to be a coach, the outside noise is irrelevant and there is no excuse for not going out there and winning. I don't know who the new manager will be, but they will have their own fans. You can't win every game, but it is about performance and that should lead into the next game. The lads will know the new boss is watching and they need to perform.

3:26PM

Gavin Gunning on what he wants:

Application, hard work, intensity.

3:25PM

Gavin Gunning on the atmosphere:

It could be a bit frantic early as everyone is excited, but hopefully we can settle down.

3:25PM

Gavin Gunning on his future:

I spoke to the club and I imagine I will still be here under the new manager. I must be doing something right to get that.

I am not going to be taking the job. There are some superb candidates that have interviewed, so I won't be taking it. I could be ready now, but I don't want to take that risk and it isn't fair on the club.

3:24PM

Gavin Gunning on loans being recalled:

No idea.

3:24PM

Gavin Gunning on injuries:

Gladwin could be a struggle for this weekend. Clayton is just starting to integrate back into training and everyone else is available.

3:23PM

Gavin Gunning on Grimsby:

We have watched them three or four times. But we are at home and we have to dominate the game. They work really hard in and out of possession, but we have to be in control. We were very fortunate to win up there, so we don't take confidence from that game. We know we can beat them, but that game we made to make a lot of clearances.

3:22PM

Gavin Gunning on pressure:

Austin coming back doesn't ease that, I want to win. It is not the Charlie Show, it is about Swindon.

He is the prodigal son and hopefully a lot of people will come down.

3:21PM

Gavin Gunning on Mildenhall:

He is a great coach and we have lent on each other and it has been great.

3:21PM

Gavin Gunning on Lindsey's spell:

We are just trying to be positive. We had structure and we are just trying to solidify things and change a few things around. Our performances weren't good enough the last few weeks and some of that is performance based. We are going to get out on Saturday and get after Grismby. We might make less passes in our half, but we are going to get forward quickly. Not long ball, but faster in transition.

3:19PM

Gavin Gunning on Austin:

He isn't what i expected, some people on tv say he's a bad egg, but in training he takes it to another level. He has been stuck in and really good around the place. He is a quality player and his movement is top. He is definitely going to be in the squad.

3:18PM

Gavin Gunning on being interim:

We were made aware when we found out Lindsey was going to Crawley that Mildenhall and I would be taking charge. We just said "yeah, it's good looking forward to it". Getting work with some great players like Austin is great.

3:16PM

Gavin Gunning is with us.

3:12PM

I am in! So only like 40-45 minutes until we get started.

3:07PM

It always runs late in this neck of the woods, so hopefully it should not be too much longer.

2:58PM

GWR being GWR means that I am not there in person today, but I will be there virtually to get all the goss from Mad Gav.

2:57PM

Swindon begin life without Scott Lindsey against 16th place Grimsby, who have lost three of their last five in the league.

2:48PM

Good afternoon everyone. Two weeks after that embarrassment against Colchester it is all change at the County Ground. Scott Lindsey is off to Crawley and we will be speaking to interim-coach Gavin Gunning ahead of the Return of the King against Grimsby on Saturday.
