PRESS CONFERENCE LIVE: Swindon v Doncaster Rovers

Follow along with live updates as Jody Morris speaks to the press ahead of Swindon Town's clash with Doncaster Rovers. Total Sports' Joe Acklam reports live from the press conference.

3:22PM

I asked Morris about what he learned from Newport and if he has banned anything since he came in:

  • I have been in the game long enough to know how hard it is with ten men, but there are things to see
  • I have played under managers who have taken stuff away, but I have been more about giving stuff back rather than taking stuff away (ketchup definitely still in the mix).

3:18PM

Jake Cain on promotion:

At Newport last year we were around the play-offs so we had that pressure. This year we have a greater chance, with experience and hunger.

It is just about believing in ourselves, we have the ability to do it. We have to stick together and work hard and improve every day. It will get scrappy towards the end and we have to earn the right to play.

3:17PM

Jake Cain on starting at the CG:

It will be a big opportunity if it does happen. I got a taste of it, but I would love to get it from the start.

3:16PM

Jake Cain on developing:

I just want to get on the ball more and be a bigger part of the game.

3:16PM

Jake Cain on moving:

I have found a place and I am around some of the other lads and we do stuff in our down time. I was in a hotel for a few days, but it is nice to get your own space.

3:15PM

Jake Cain on pressure:

There is that added pressure, but 23s is competitive too. There is that stigma about it, but it is still competitive. There is more of an atmosphere and an emphasis on the three points. PLaying Everton was always competitive and teams play in different ways, so I have learned from.

3:14PM

Jake Cain on his time at Newport:

When I signed there last year it was one of the best footballing sides, and Swindon are probably the best at that. That was a huge reason for me to come here. It is part of football to have different styles, but that is why I came here. There is a lot of hard work that has to go in.

3:13PM

Jake Cain on his style:

I like getting on the ball and finding angles. The defenders like being on the ball, so it lets me get on the ball and get it forward.

3:13PM

Jake Cain on pressing:

There are a lot of pressing triggers you have to recognise, but also having the mentality to do it. We are all fit lads so we should be able to cope with it.

3:12PM

Jake Cain on settling in:

I am loving it. The style really suits me and all the lads have been really welcoming.

Morris wants a lot of energy, being technical and getting forwards quickly. It really suits the team and me. It is similar to Liverpool, we were always high press in all teams.

3:08PM

Jake Cain is in line to be the player.

3:03PM

Jody Morris on rule changes he would like:

Could be controversial, but I would put something in place with bringing on physios for no reason. That is a mixture of things. If you had a thing where if you bring a physio on, the player has to stay off for five minutes, you would see less magic sponge action. I feel often you don't need physio attention, I can't stand it. I would love that as it takes away time wasting and that you get players leaving their team in the lurch for unnecessary use. If it is a head, physios don't need to be welcomed on, they need to get out there. But it is the silly stuff and the player runs straight on. The refs never add it on anyway.

3:00PM

Jody Morris on RHM's red card:

I would have appealed if we had better footage. I was standing in front of it and the fourth official saw what I saw. He absolutely didn't push him and didn't touch his face, but we need better footage to show that. With better footage we would have a strong case, but it is not worth it when the footage doesn't absolutely show that.

2:59PM

Jody Morris on his excitement:

I want to give the fans more to shout about. Dropping down to ten after 15 mins is not great, when we have got the same amount of men we can impose ourselves more. I want to see the lads confident, working hard, and showing their ability. I want to see signs of what I am telling them and also the fans to see that they are playing for the shirt. I want to see us better in possession than we were against Newport and take control of the game. Also we need to bridge the gap to where I want them to be off the ball.

2:57PM

2:57PM

Jody Morris on Lewis Ward:

There is an issue with his previous club and we and him are seeking advice on it. I am not sure where it is going to go, I am not sure what I can say. I would like him to sign, but I don't know.

2:56PM

Jody Morris on free agents:

If you miss out on a couple that we thought were going to be stronger then you have to look what is out there. Whether anything will be sorted, I don't know. There is a reason why they are free agents, not to say there isn't value there, but there are many reasons. Be it money or division. Some you make contact with and they are injured too. Ideally we would get another couple of bodies, but so many things have to be right.

?

2:55PM

Jody Morris on moving players around:

There is that element to it already. You can't lose a player of the value of Khan and not miss him. WE need to adjust and tweak. We were hoping to be couple of players stronger at the end of the window, so we have to find the right balance to get the job done from what we have available.

2:54PM

Jody Morris on his first home game:

It is important, but for me every game we need to show whatever fans something to see. You want people to be able to come to the stadium and know they will see a team performing and turning this place into a fortress. I would rather not have the injuries and suspensions, but that is football.

2:53PM

Jody Morris on Doncaster:

Watching the footage, some of the results they had were quite unjust. In the Mansfield game they were playing some nice stuff, but they got punished for small mistakes. They got a result in midweek, but the form was a bit unjust.

2:49PM

Jody Morris on knowing the players:

It is still early. I don't think you get to know people in ten days, it is a process of getting to know how individuals and the group reacts. The more you are around players, the more your opinions are shaped. The more you get to see from them on and off the pitch is important. I am pleased with how the work has gone this week.

2:48PM

Jody Morris on Newport:

I am still the same with how I felt. The sending off had a huge impact on what we wanted to do, but we can still do better on elements regardless of that. We can still do better in some areas, but it is difficult for player on the pitch with something that early.

2:47PM

Jody Morris on Ed Brand:

Still waiting for confirmation. The amount of conversations that have gone on has been a high number. I am hoping for it to be sorted as it is dragging on too long now. You always want people you can trust and everyone being able to do their roles. So that impacts things, but we hopefully won't be talking about it too much more. I thought it would be sorted last week, so fingers crossed.

2:46PM

Jody Morris on injuries:

It looks like we are still without Lavinier. There are elements of seeing whether Shade can be involved, but I am not sure yet. FBT was off ill today, so we have to see how he comes through. But that should be it as far as wellness.

Lavinier has a problem with the tendon in his hamstring. I am hoping it won't take too long but we have to see how it progresses.

2:44PM

Jody Morris is with us.

2:31PM

Good afternoon everyone. We are at the County Ground and Jody Morris should be with us promptly.
