PRESS CONFERENCE LIVE: Northampton Town v Swindon

Live updates as Scott Lindsey speaks to the press ahead of Swindon Town travelling to Northampton in League Two. Total Sport's Joe Acklam reports live from the press conference.

2:22PM

No players are still here, so that is that for today.

2:21PM

I asked Lindsey about why the goals aren't coming and about Northampton:

  • It is about those fine lines and we remain hopeful of putting it right
  • People say they are a direct team, but not so much. They stretch the pitch really well and will cause us problems.
2:17PM

Scott Lindsey on Iandolo:

He has been very good. He has given us that desire to win the ball back and get to second balls. He knows how we play and how to get the ball back. He always looks tired but then finds an extra lung and gets back into it. I am surprised he hasn't scored more as he gets into good areas a lot.

He can work on his finishing, but all players have areas to improve. He is getting into the positions.

I think he could be important in this game.

2:15PM

Scott Lindsey on Hutton:

I think it is the way things have gone. We never want to stop what he does and we just wanted to add to that. I have spoken with him at length this week. Shade plays in front of him and drifts to let him get forward and he has been a bit safe with his positioning.

2:14PM

Scott Lindsey on support:

We are desperate to do well for the fans. There were over 10000 here on Boxing Day and we want to do well for them. We want them to see a team trying to win the game. On Boxing Day we lacked in several areas, but we still had some good elements and went for the win.

We want to be fully committed to how we play and the players have been.We lacked that energy on Boxing Day, and I fully expect a good performance on Thursday.

2:13PM

Scott Lindsey on transfers:

It is early for me to comment on anything, but there are discussions going on.

It is what it is, I have to concentrate on the players we have and that is why we have people behind the scenes doing the work.

2:12PM

Scott Lindsey on set pieces:

We have to concentrate on us. We have been working on how to defend these set pieces. We have been good on that even if we weren't on boxing day. Hopefully we can nullify their threats. FBT was the one off the pitch when the second goes in, and he is the one who puts his head pn things. If a double decker bus came in the area, he would head it.

2:11PM

Scott Lindsey on League 2:

All three at the top are really good at what they do. John Brady has had a really good season with Northampton and they have pretty much been in the top three the whole time. When we played here I thought we played well, but conceded that set piece at the end.

2:10PM

Scott Lindsey on goals:

I feel the pain. I am exactly the same as we do so much work on the training ground. We are doing everything we can but we are still finding it difficult to put it over the line. In this period of games that becomes difficult as you are doing recovery and then game specific stuff, but lets hope we will see an improvement.

I would be more concerned if we weren;t getting into the areas.

2:08PM

Scott Lindsey on form:

Last week at Barrow people said it was the best we had played. I don't know why it becomes a crisis within a week. We are fifth in the league, six league debuts and we brought in 21 new players. There are going to be ups and downs and things will go against us but we have to ride it.

?

2:07PM

Scott Lindsey on team news:

Jephcott comes back into play after a lengthy spell out. He is added to what we are doing and everyone seems to be getting over the cold. Iandolo came off with a calf but should be ok.

Brennan suffered the most with the flu, was training a bit today but too soon for him. Hopefully after the weekend he will be involved. It really hit the squad harder than we realise. Between Barrow and Walsall I only had the team that played for one day and you could hardly hear anything at half-time. It was really bad.

2:03PM

Just to get this in early. Charlie Austin stuff will be kept to a minimum today as we have asked it quite a lot. How about we all just agree to leave it where it us until there is an actual update.

1:56PM

Good afternoon everyone. Absolutely no rest during the festive period as we are straight into another game with Northampton coming up tomorrow.
