PRESS CONFERENCE LIVE: Mansfield Town v Swindon

Live updates as Scott Lindsey speaks to the press ahead of Swindon Town travelling to face Mansfield Town in League Two. Total Sport's Joe Acklam reports live from the press conference.

4:48PM

That's all folks.

4:47PM

Ricky Aguiar on Mansfield:

We have shown this season that when we play our game we can beat anyone. The way we set up to play, if we focus on what we are doing then we will beat them.,

4:46PM

Ricky Aguiar on being in the team:

I think you have to back yourself to play and then just do well in training and keep improving. At any team if you are not fighting for your place then you won't get better. The players we have in that position are probably the best in the league and I think that gets the best out of you to have to compete for your position.

Training is always competitive and it is always good to be working on yourself.

4:45PM

Ricky Aguiar on Rovers red card:

I don't want to speak about that, nothing I saw will be good.

4:44PM

Ricky Aguiar on his progress:

I think training has been massive and really good this season. I just have to keep that up and building game on game.

4:44PM

Ricky Aguiar on Bradford:

I think it is a difficult place to got. Early we were on top but just had to get used to their rotation. We spoke about that at half-time, pressed higher and forced mistakes.

I think everyone would say we could have won the game, but we will take the point happily.

I think I did well in the first 10-15 minutes and then in the second we were all very good. I was really happy to start and moving forward I can get a few more and build on it.

4:33PM

My questions this week were about conceding goals in transition, loan players, and Marcel Lavinier:

  • Some times we are in position to defend those situations and I feel like we are set up well to deal with it, but there are times when we have been caught out
  • There is always that worry with loan players going back, but they are doing well and playing here so we hope to keep them
  • He has been unlucky not to be involved as we want attacking options on the bench, but we like him and without Hutton he would be straight in
4:25PM

Scott Lindsey on Khan:

I think he plays further forward anyway. He is different to Reed as he sits deeper and sprays passes. Khan collects the ball and drives forwards, so the way he plays gets him forward anyway and a lot of our attacks start with that. He did play higher up earlier this season but sometimes that limited his spave.

4:23PM

Scott Lindsey on a good time to play Mansfield:

No, I don't see that. I would go the other way, them being such a good team with players coming back because they haven't won in so many games it can go the other way.

4:22PM

Scott Lindsey on what can be learnt from Tuesday:

I think every game is different, every team is different. I don't think we change anyway, we want to start quickly and play high up the pitch and dominate the ball. Our set up doesn't really change. Can we learn from Tuesday? Bits but that is only relevant for playing Bradford again.

4:21PM

Scott Lindsey on changing perceptions:

I don't really care what people think of us. We are keeping on doing what we want. I think we are a good side and better than we realise, we should take confidence from what we did at Bradford.

I think we are constantly banging that drum to tell them how good they are individually and as a group. I try and keep my messages positive about expecting them to win every game and I believe that.

4:20PM

Scott Lindsey on freshness:

The lads got back as early as 5am Wednesday by the time they got to sleep. Yesterday was full recovery and today was a light session. The boys will be fully refreshed and ready to go come kick-off. I think the changes worked to keep players fit. It gave Darcy and Jephcott a rest and Baudry too but he was also ill. I thought the two defenders at the back did well for us, which gives us a decision to make.

4:18PM

Scott Lindsey on Mansfield:

Another experienced manager. Not great results of late but they have had some injuries and illnesses who could come back. They changed formation midweek but it sounds like that won't be permanent.

I don't know why their home form is so good. They are a front foot team and the crowd get behind them, it has always been a difficult place to go when I have been a coach and player.

4:17PM

Scott Lindsey on FBT coming off:

It was around that time when they got a hold of the game and played very well. At half-time spoke about doing our things and not worrying about them and we were very good in the second half.

I don't think there was added tempo from the crowd, I don't think the players take much notice of it. Bradford are a good team who will be around it at the end of the season, but we deserved something out of the game and we came away with a point. If we got three then that also would have been about right.

I spoke to Mark Hughes after the game and had a drink with him. We agreed it wasn't a League Two game and for someone to say that about us is quite humbling.

4:15PM

Scott Lindsey on FBT:

his aerial ability is very important. He is a manager's dream, turns up does his work well and goes home. He attacks the ball in both boxes and is good on the ball.

We will have to speak in January about a permanent, I would snap your hand off if we could, but I don't know how that would work.

4:13PM

Scott Lindsey on injuries:

FBT got a real nasty black eye and has had stitches. We had a eye specialist from the boxing industry come in to do work with him.

Aside from that it is the normal ones.

4:11PM

Scott Lindsey is with us.

4:01PM

Having got a midweek draw against play-off challengers Bradford, Swindon are off to yet another play-off challengers Mansfield on Saturday.

3:56PM

Good afteroon everyone, long time no speak. It is the second press conference of a bumper week for Swindon as they now prepare to face Mansfield.
