PRESS CONFERENCE LIVE: Leyton Orient v Swindon

Follow along with live updates as Jody Morris speaks to the press ahead of Swindon Town's clash with Leyton Orient. Total Sports' Joe Acklam reports live from the press conference.

3:05PM

That is all from today, see you all soon.

3:05PM

I asked RHM about staying positive and his reaction to Newport

  • It is just about getting in the right positions and believing in yourself
  • I had to show him what I had, so I was keen to show what I was about
3:02PM

RHM on his future:

Not really, I just want to push for play-offs. If talks come then great, but I am thinking about this season. Since my hamstring I have been injury free and want to get 90 minutes.

3:01PM

RHM on getting fouled:

It is frustrating. Most people have been out for a while so getting those little kicks is tough. Morris has spoken to me about keeping my head.

3:01PM

RHM on Newport:

It was bad timing in the gaffer's first game. Saturday was the perfect reaction and it is behind me now.

3:00PM

RHM on injuries:

The lads are pretty confident after the wins and we play better against the big teams. We need to attack from the first whistle.

Injuries happen in football, we have had some set backs but this is why we have a squad.

2:59PM

RHM on playing on the wing:

I usually played 9, but a lot of managers have played me on the wing so I am very used to it.

2:59PM

RHM on Austin:

Chaz is brilliant, he has been since he walked in the door. He is always talking to me about getting in the right areas and giving my his knowledge.

2:58PM

RHM on Saturday:

It meant a lot to me and the team. Back-to-back Ws and after the red card it was the perfect comeback. To get my first to league goals out of the way is perfect. It was big for the team to follow up Salford too. I don't think I have scored many headers, so that is a collectors item. When the ball is one side you need the other one in the box, there are a lot of goals in that.

2:50PM

We are waiting for RHM btw, so that is going to be 10-15 minutes as he is in the gym.

2:48PM

Push the boat out for Eliaqium Mangala. Or total different direction for one-time Swindon goal scorer Leon Legge.

2:46PM

USMNT-favourite Geoff Cameron is also kicking his heels.

2:44PM

In my down town I have been looking at free agent defenders and so far I have found former-Reading and Sevilla defender Daniel Carrico, loves the area so much he left Reading after six months.

2:41PM

I asked Morris about Reece Devine and Charlie Austin:

  • He is going to be in the squad... He will probably be in the squad.
  • I am very happy with what Austin has given me effort-wise and I have been disappointed with us on the ball, so we need to be better at that to get him more chances
2:36PM

Jody Morris on what he is telling the players:

At the moment, we haven't been able to focus on how we are playing as we haven't been able to. You are touching on things you know will happen and what you are facing, but without the finer details. That is not a problem, as it is not always the case I will do that early as I like to vary it. They are not silly, they know the treatment room is full and will be wondering themselves what we are going to do. If you drill in the standards every day, then it is just the finer details when you know.

2:34PM

Jody Morris on contracts:

I have had brief chats with RHM and Williams, not really about their contracts, but about what the best thing is for them. Those are conversations that you expect to be visiting, but that is a collective one from everybody as what I want has to fall into line with what they can do.

2:33PM

Jody Morris on next season:

There is an element of that already, You always have to have one eye on further down the line. But firstly we want to challenge for promotion and make the play-offs, but that can't be 100% of your focus. you have to think about what is happening next year and where you can improve. We have seen already what can happen with suspensions and injuries going against you, so if we can be prepped to deal with that better then we want to do it. So have chats about next season with the club, you have to do that as you can't put all your eggs in one basket.

2:31PM

Jody Morris on the fans:

I have to say, I have been buzzing with the away support. They have been class. You want to build a relationship with the club you are working for, but it is also my job to protect the players. If things are happening too early in games then I should say. Of course you want a relationship, if I stayed quiet then that is not building a relationship, that is being fake. The ones that have travelled have been outstanding even at Sutton with the way we lost. There is a change no matter the club, when you are at home there is a different expectation. I have to think how to get the most out of the players and make them relish play in front of their home crowd. They will be needed wherever we play, so the louder the better. I played with people who would be affected by that and we want to give them the best chance to perform.

2:28PM

Jody Morris on Leyton Orient:

I am pleased as when I first came in I a have watched a lot of footage and I have enjoyed watching them the most. They play the right way and are coached well. For me they are not just the best team statistically, they are just the best.

2:27PM

Jody Morris on making the best of it:

You have to know who is available. You need to think of other ways you wouldn't have thought about before as you thought you had people. Players will be playing positions they aren't the most comfortable with, but you can't rush people back as I don't want to prep for Carlisle with another one out.

2:26PM

Jody Morris on injuries:

No one else is available. Lavinier took part in the majority of the ball stuff today, so that is a big step. He has made strides but when you lose one on Saturday and one on Tuesday you are still in the minuses.

2:25PM

Jody Morris on options at the back:

We will have a problem involving Iandolo at the weekend as he has not made it through a training session this week. He has a problem with his heel, we are waiting on feedback but he is not in a great place. As far as knowing how we will play, no one at this table knows at the minute including myself.

Devine has trained the last two weeks and has done well. I was pleased with Tomlinson at the weekend, not just coming on and affecting the game, but for someone who hadn't trained much his attitude was great. I have been impressed. Defensively it is nice to talk about positives and he has impressed me technically and mentally. That was why he got his chance.

2:23PM

Jody Morris on Brand and Ward:

No. There has been some with Brand but that might just lead to another statement. There's an element to things needing to be done for it to happen and that might need to be a chat Brand needs to have with Chelsea. We need to see what the next steps are as I don't know. We need to start looking at that as it is taking a while.

The secondment is more for Brand, I understand it but it is not my place to talk about it. As far as both clubs were concerned it was sound and would have been a formality. I should be careful with what I say, but I am surprised.

2:21PM

Jody Morris on frustrations:

It is hard, there have been many factors. I won't aim anything at the club, there are mistakes but we have been unlucky with injuries and outside factors playing a part in us not getting a defender. It is frustrating, but it is frustrating for everyone as it is clear to see we are short and whatever we can put out is not going to be ideal. Going to the strongest team in the league it is not the greatest prep. At the moment as a manager and what I feel we need for preparation.

2:19PM

Jody Morris on defenders:

Erm not as well as I would have liked. I wish I was sitting here saying we had someone through the door, but it hasn't materialised. You lose experience out the door when I came in and you want to add to it, you miss out on deadline day. We hoped to add prior to the injuries, so it has been disappointing but not for the want of trying.

I won't say why, there are numerous things at play like fitness, which has been an obstacle, and making sure you can get a deal done and sometimes the goal posts move and it looks like that might have been the case. Let's see what happens, but I was expecting at least one. I am not abandoning the idea just because of how short we are in that area. I don't think we can afford to rule it out, but nothing is close.

2:12PM

We have made our way upstairs and now the waiting for Morro begins.

1:53PM

I have (naturally) been asked to put forward the ol' reliable questions like Ed Brand, Lewis Ward, and a new centre back. I would bet everything I have on Andrew Hawes asking about the defender, so unlikely to be my jurisdiction and as for the other two, I think those are both wait and see ones for the eventual conclusion of them one way or the other.

1:51PM

Morris caused somewhat of a stir on Saturday when he questioned some fans choice to boo after five minutes (ironically his answer lasted longer than the amount of time it took people to boo his team). I imagine there will be some chat about this.

1:44PM

Good afternoon everyone. No chances taken today, so GWR will not be thwarting my coverage today. Swindon are taking on table-toppers Leyton Orient this weekend, who haven't lost in their last six, so a lovely day out in London to be expected on Saturday until 3:01pm.
