PRESS CONFERENCE LIVE: Hartlepool United v Swindon

Follow along with live updates as Jody Morris speaks to the press ahead of Swindon Town's clash with Hartlepool United. Total Sports' Joe Acklam reports live from the press conference.

11:00AM

It does not appear that we will be getting a player, so this will conclude the press conference. Fair play to anyone who is travelling up to Hartlepool this weekend.

10:59AM

I asked Morris about judging his players and dealing with Hartelpool's set piece threat:

  • I am judging the players all of the time, in training and in matches, if someone can impress me in this final month and a bit then you have to think about that
  • I felt we did deal with it better against Stockport, but we need to continue to make sure we aren't gifting goals from those positions and make teams work for them if they are going to score
10:51AM

Jody Morris on learning from Rochdale:

I felt that we were a threat in that game, but I had mixed feelings. There was so much wrong with us, but we always looked like a threat. If we can do that at the weekend I will be pleased, but we also need to be miles better defensively and on the ball. You have a team that is not shy in coming forwards. One thing I have learned is that what you watch of teams isn't always what you see. Like against Leyton Orient they looked like a good passing team but they said afterwards they wanted to go direct. You have to be prepared to deal with whatever. We need to use every opportunity to implement our style and if that is sporadic then we need to make use of it.

10:48AM

Jody Morris on Hartlepools again:

Andrew is right in talking about fighting for their lives, but they are second from bottom and have drawn five in a row, so clearly not that easy to beat. The focus has to be on us and how we approach the game and deal with what comes our way. We cannot leave any excuses and we need to be at it and make sure we keep eleven on the pitch. If it takes the dirty side of the game then we need to do that and get the three points.

10:46AM

Jody Morris on Harries:

He is not close to being selected. Not for me. At the moment he is way off it physically. Training at a high level that is needed to play games and watching the other night, he is way off it. He has been out for ages, you can see that in how he is moving.

10:45AM

Jody Morris on his ten games in charge:

The form clearly hasn't been good enough as far as the results. Can we get better in all areas? Absolutely. But we could easily be sitting here with plenty more points, we deserve more from performances. On paper the form hasn't been great but the circumstances of injuries and suspensions and individual errors, it is not as bad as it looks. It is up to me to change that, but at the moment it is not good enough. When you get the chance to address that, first things first it to the areas you need improvement, but at the moment there are too many. We have had to change the line-up more than I would like, but lots of things have led to that. It is nice to go into a game this week with a nearly fully fit squad. We have to try and get these players who are a huge influence on the pitch and I think we will be in a better place this weekend for doing that.

10:41AM

Jody Morris on game management:

I would be lying if I said I was extremely happy with the decision making. When we set up training sessions to improve that, I am not over the moon about it. But the level of training this week has been great in the quality and output. Sometimes after difficult moments you worry about the atmosphere, but the levels have been really high. We need to keep that today and tomorrow to give us the best chance. We need to improve that on match day and in training.

10:40AM

Jody Morris on Hartlepools:

I think it is a test of character, but even if we went ten minutes down the road to play on a nice pitch it would be the same. The bottom line is we haven't performed as well as we should have all over the pitch. It is a more extreme test as you have the travel and pitches and stuff, but everything should be a test of character as we have to overcome a team that is fighting for their lives. We should be fighting just as hard as we want to give ourselves as chance to pounce on teams that slip up. If they fight harder than us then we aren't doing our job properly. That goes for everyone.

10:37AM

Jody Morris on dressing room clashes:

I have always felt that if you aren't disagreeing then you aren't passionate enough. If you are winning every game, you should still be finding things to improve. If anyone thinks these things don't happen then you don't know anything about football. I would be worried if this wasn't happening especially when things happen that cost the team. As long as it is put to bed quickly and it doesn't overstep the mark then it is fine and it didn't do that. If anything it was light compared to what I have seen. If we are not driving each other then we are not doing enough as there is always room for improvement. That doesn't come through high fives.

10:35AM

Jody Morris on confidence in the squad:

It is hard to make an assumption because of where we are after a few months. I still don't think that is long enough to know where the team would be. It is always better to have a pre-season and have longer to work with them. Especially with injuries and being asked to do different things. Obviously I know better now that I did week one, but there is a long way between now and the end of the season, but as for definitive decisions I will hold off. We can't get away from the fact that we have been inconsistent as a team and as individuals. You would like longer to look at players and if you need to replace or add something to compliment the group.

10:32AM

Jody Morris on Salisbury:

The main thing I was looking out for was the application of a few players and getting a chance to see the younger ones. A few bits in the first half weren't too bad and some others could have been better. It was more about how you approach those games as if you approach them right then it should take care of itself.

I think it is better if you can see younger players in a reserve game. In youth teams it can be misleading as you are not sure of the quality. Although it is against lesser opposition it is mens football, so better for people like Jackson Brown. That aspect of the physical side is good for a lot of the boys anyway. You would like to think our boys can deal with the cardio of those games, but sometimes you have to see how they are.

10:30AM

Jody Morris on injuries:

WE have a doubt over Darcy after he felt his calf in training. Aguiar is off ill. Shade will be back later today, I think there was a delay, but will be in for training. We will see how he is but he will be available. I will get the full run down on his Caribbean experience later.

10:28AM

Jody Morris is here and we should be starting imminently.

10:25AM

Looking at Hartlepool's form, they have drawn their last five matches, but haven't actually won a game since 4th February. I did some calculations and over a third of their goals come from set pieces, so 1-0 Hartlepool it is.

10:20AM

Usually these Teams press conferences don't have a player in them, so I imagine this will be the same but you never know.

10:13AM

Good morning everyone. Early press conference for us today as Swindon prepare to take on Hartlepools this weekend. It was at The Suit Direct Stadium that Town's season turned around last year, hopefully this year it can have a similar impact.
