PRESS CONFERENCE LIVE: Crawley Town v Swindon

Live updates as Scott Lindsey speaks to the press ahead of Swindon Town playing away against Crawley Town in League Two. Total Sport's Joe Acklam reports live from the press conference.

3:30PM

That is all from today, everyone listen to the Presser.

3:29PM

Tom Clayton on Swindon's season so far:

Solid start and a work in progress. It is a decent position, but we can do more.

3:28PM

Tom Clayton on his injury:

Touch wood that is the end of it.

3:28PM

Tom Clayton on the key to the game:

We have to turn up and do what we have been doing with a little more cutting edge. We lost to Crewe, but it was a penalty and we haven't given much away.

We had a debrief after Crewe and we have put that to the back of our minds now.

3:27PM

Tom Clayton on getting back on the pitch:

If we could have played the Tuesday after Crewe, we would have taken it. We are ready now.

3:27PM

Tom Clayton on the table:

It is a 46 game season and we are getting stronger. We are not too concerned and are ready to kick on.

3:26PM

Tom Clayton on Crawley's new manager:

There isn't much for us on that. It isn;t about them, for us it is about us and if we perform then we should win.

Balgazi is a good kid and has a big future and I hope we can catch-up after a win for us.

3:25PM

Tom Clayton on fitness:

I had a grade two quad tear, which was frustrating to be out and miss games, but the rest won;t do too much harm and I feel ready now. I was training before Crewe, so I have had two and a half weeks of training now. It was nice to be able to train and build-up to a game and not be in too much of a rush. After Crewe everyone wanted to play quickly, but we have done good work.

I don;t enjoy watching, we have played well but lacked that cutting edge and hopefully we can do that this weekend.

3:23PM

Tom Clayton on the World Cup:

You are used to it in the garden, so it is a bit weird in the winter. We all wanted Williams to come on the other night, but it wasn;t to be. He hasn't been too active in the group chat since he left.

Some games do pass you by and some you are more interested in, like England, and you can also learn off some of them. One of my old Liverpool friends is playing now for Canada. Liam Miller.

3:21PM

Tom Clayton is with us.

3:18PM

Scott Lindsey on his job:

I really enjoy the job, being on the grass with the players, organising the team, watching us back, matchdays, and I have had to cope with not winning and playing well. It has been a very positive few months, we were having the best start in 16 years. The last game was disappointing, but in the whole I am pleased.

3:17PM

Scott Lindsey on bad record against Crawley:

Every season is different and I don't look at that.

3:16PM

Scott Lindsey on returning to winning ways:

Because they have a new manager we can't look at what they have done before. There will be more effort from the players trying to impress him, so what happened before doesn't matter.

3:16PM

Scott Lindsey on December:

We have pretty much since game four dominated the ball and we need to keep creating chances and start to put them away. The amount we had against Crewe, Jephcott's header against the bar and Iandolo over the bar, so those aren;t even shots on target. We need more goals.

3:15PM

Scott Lindsey on having a player at the World Cup:

It is everything to me, Jonny is a great guy and a top man. To see him achieve something like that is brilliant and we wanted him to do well. The fact he went out there is brilliant and fantastic for us and for me as he is the only player I have coached to have been to a World Cup.

3:13PM

Scott Lindsey on Crawley's forwards:

They have goot strikers in Naddesan and Telford and good players behind that, so we are surprised they aren't higher up the table.

3:13PM

Scott Lindsey on Crawley:

First of all we scrap what we were looking at, I went to watch them last Tuesday and they played the same formation with Young as with Betsy. That might change now and you do as much background work on what the manager has done at his previous club to find what they did. I have used this as a week to concentrate on us more, as we are not sure on anything they will do. Let's see what happens, they have good players and have underachieved, but it is a new manager.

3:11PM

Anything over 30 box entries is good, apparently.

3:10PM

Scott Lindsey on Williams:

We have missed him but I knew we would. Most managers mention him after the game, so you know how highly he is thought of. Hopefully he will be back soon.

It important to have that know-how at the top of the pitch, make runs, open space, etc. In the last game we needed that, albeit we had 56 box entries, 9 shots on target. When you look at that you think we should at least get one goal.

3:09PM

Scott Lindsey on formations:

Formations are only for where players stand at kick-off, they are all pretty much the same for passing lines. Wakeling plays narrow in a 433 anyway, for example. I think they are the same, especially when you play with the ball like us.

3:08PM

Scott Lindsey on injuries:

Harries is a long-term one, MacDonald has trained pretty much all week, the same Clayton, RHM is pretty much in full training.

Harries is a grade four hamstring, significant tear and it could be as late as March. We had a chat today and it is very disappointing for him when it happened, but that can be the life of a footballer sometimes.

We always thought RHM could return this week, we think he might need another week, so we will probably leave it until Wimbledon. He was really sharp in training today. Electrifying and a good attitude.

3:06PM

Scott Lindsey on the World Cup:

I wanted to see Williams get on, it would have been great for him and I was willing it during the England game. I did speak to him via text yesterday and he has had a great experience.

It is hard to ready by text and I am sure there is disappointment, but it will be good to have him back.

I have not watched loads of the World Cup, I watched England and Spain, but not too much as we were working hard here. Spain are very good at controlling and playing the ball. They are very brave and very young, so I don't know if this one will be for them or maybe the next one.

3:03PM

Scott Lindsey on the break:

We have tried to get a balance between rest and doing some hard work on the training ground. We though hard about that balance and training has been good this week.

Williams is not available, he will be back late and not in training.

3:01PM

No trouser-based compliment this week. I must be slipping.

2:58PM

Our usual indifference over the player chat is done, so we should be with Scott Lindsey pretty soon.

2:51PM

It has been a quiet fortnight for Swindon, but not for Crawley as they brought in rookie manager Matthew Etherington earlier this week.

2:48PM

Good afternoon everyone, long time no see. A week without a game has allowed Swindon to stew on their disappointing defeat against Crewe Alexandra last time out. Scott Lindsey is to come.
