PRESS CONFERENCE LIVE: Colchester United v Swindon

Live updates as Scott Lindsey speaks to the press ahead of Swindon Town travelling to Colchester in League Two. Total Sport's Joe Acklam reports live from the press conference.

2:16PM

That is all from today as the players trained earlier today. Happy New Year everyone.

2:15PM

I asked about how he has coached Marcel Lavinier to score worldies and how clinical Swindon were against Northampton:

  • It is about repetition and getting comfortable with doing it (I was subsequently shown video of the coaching)
  • Very pleasing to see as our xG was much lower than Northampton
2:05PM

Scott Lindsey on Colchester:

Every game is hard at this level. The teams down the bottom are fighting for every point and this game we will have to be at our best.

2:04PM

Scott Lindsey on transfers:

It is still too early for me to comment on that. We are happy with what we have, but we would like to add to it.

2:03PM

Scott Lindsey on Austin:

He will give us loads on the pitch, as he will off it. He is a good character and will give us loads in the dressing room and his goals will help.

2:03PM

Scott Lindsey on progress:

I think it is a step forward, I would still like to add to the goals we have been scoring. We have not won many by more than one goal and we want to move forward.

2:02PM

Scott Lindsey on his year:

It has been a really positive first half of the season. We signed a lot of players, have a young squad who are learning every day. I have really enjoyed my time so far and we are in healthy position to hopefully kick on from.

Nothing has surprised me as I have been in the game a long time and I have embraced it. I try and do my job as best as I can and touch base with everyone around the club. Everyone is important to me and people make football clubs.

2:01PM

Scott Lindsey on plan:

We want to score goals. It has been clear to see that we have dominated games and then not been able to score, so it would be nice to be able to score goals.

2:00PM

Scott Lindsey on Colchester:

We always have a clear idea of what we think the challenges will be. I think last time was Bloomfield's first game and they have good players and good experience. The wing-backs attack aggressively and quickly then good size at the top of the pitch. They are not in a great position in the league, but that is not easy as they are scrapping for every point.

1:59PM

Scott Lindsey on turnaround:

Freshness. You want everyone to be fit to pick the team for the next game. We look at everything and the lads are honest about it and pick accordingly.

1:58PM

Scott Lindsey on Northampton:

I watched it back and I thought we played better than I thought. On the night I didn't think we were great with the ball, but on reflection I was pleased with how we played. We have been better at controlling games, but maybe I was a bit harsh.

1:57PM

Scott Lindsey on squad:

Really good. We have a good squad and you can take the Barrow game as a good example of that. We went there and played well and won comfortably.

1:57PM

Scott Lindsey on injuries:

A few bumps and bruises, we have assessed soreness and picked a team accordingly. We have worked on that this morning and we are ready to go.

Brennan is good to go. He literally had eight days in bed, but he is back in training fully.

1:56PM

Scott Lindsey on Austin:

We are delighted to have him on board. He is a legend here anyway and then went on to have a brilliant career. He should add some goals and plenty else. Initial chats have been positive and he is really bright around the place. I think his leadership is vital with this group as it is young. We have a sprinkling of experience and when you have a young group you need that. All the experienced players are great characters and he should add to that.

Austin joined in training today, it was mostly shape for tomorrow, but he helped out with mimicking the opposition. We have a two week window to Grimsby to get the international clearance and play then.

Nothing changes in my job with him here. He was in Australia where Clem lives so logistically it was done that way, but there is no pressure on me. I am delighted.
