PLAYER RATINGS: Swindon (0) AFC Wimbledon (0)

Swindon Town once again failed to muster enough in front of goal to capitalise on their strong build-up play in their 0-0 draw against Wimbledon. Total Sport’s Joe Acklam reviews the players individual performances.

Ratings scale: 10- won the game on their own, 9- unplayable, 8- outstanding, 7- very good, 6- good, 5- solid, 4- disappointing, 3- awful, 2- woeful, 1- frequent major errors

GK: Sol Brynn – 4

Bizarrely in a match in which Swindon kept a clean sheet against a strong side, Brynn actually looked more shaky than he normally does. His early slip to let Ethan Chislett have a chance from range and then his dropped catch from an Ayoub Assal cross were uncharacteristic lapses in concentration.

RB: Remeao Hutton – 5

After a month in which Hutton arguably elevated himself into being Swindon’s best player, Hutton’s last two performances have been quiet. It is likely that teams are devoting more attention to him now and he looked less dynamic and explosive as a result.

CB: Ciaran Brennan – 6

As Swindon’s only fully fit natural centre-back, Brennan had some pressure on him and I feel he delivered. He largely kept Josh Davison out of the game and kept the play moving when he got on the ball.

CB: Frazer Blake-Tracy – 7

So, not only is Blake-Tracy a great left-back and left centre-back, he is also a great centre-back. He had a rocky moment early on as Davison shook him off and got a shot on goal, but he recovered and won that battle from there on in. He also supported the attack when appropriate. Swindon need to have him here after January.

LB: Marcel Lavinier – 7

With Hutton shut down, Swindon’s thrust needed to come from somewhere else and Lavinier stepped up. The fluid left flank was a joy to watch and Lavinier linked play, played killer balls, and drove forwards almost always at the right time. You have to count him as unlucky not to have played more based on this showing.

CM: Ronan Darcy – 5

I felt his performance was good in patches. Swindon broke beyond the first line of Wimbledon’s press with ease and Darcy did this well. However, when he got into the final third he just took too long to pick a pass or put too much weight on it. I do need to bring up one bit of dazzling piece of skill he produced on the halfway line in the first half, Ronaldinho-like.

CM: Louis Reed – 6

Reed is just great. Once or twice he undercooked his more difficult passes, but there is just no one in this league who plays that position anywhere close to his level. Reed is marked on a different scale to everyone else as I know what his best performances look like, but he set the tempo well and demonstrated his unmatched passing range on a few occasions.

CM: Ellis Iandolo – 6

I thought Iandolo was much improved against Crawley, and he continued that today. The way he interchanged positions with Lavinier and Jonny Williams was great to watch. I would like a little more in the final third, but he looked comfortable again.

RW: Tyrese Shade – 4

I really like Shade, but his first touch vanished today. When he was given space to receive the ball, he was able to turn and looked good. However, most of the time he was under pressure when the ball came to him and his touch was heavy and he would lose it.

ST: Jacob Wakeling – 4

Wakeling is having a great debut season, but in some games he does go missing. When put up against two physical defenders, as he was yesterday, he struggles to impose himself. There was a moment or two when he found space and he could get running, but he was generally ineffective.

LW: Jonny Williams – 7

It is very important that he is back. His creativity and ability to run with the ball was a real bright spark. His final product was slightly off, like when he shot over the bar late in the first half, but he made a big difference.

Subs:

Morgan Roberts – 6

Promising. His running in behind quickly caused problems for Wimbledon, his rounding the of the ‘keeper and when he should have won a penalty in the last minute. He came on and impacted the game and that is all you can ask.

Rushian Hepburn-Murphy – 6

His return to fitness will be key. Hepburn-Murphy was dynamic and showed the desire that many lacked to defy his stature and win a header straight after coming on. If he can remain fit then he will be key.
