Partick Thistle manager Alan Archibald dismisses link to Swindon Town as "speculation"

Partick Thistle manager Alan Archibald has claimed that reports linking him to the vacant managerial position at Swindon Town is only "speculation."

Archibald was touted with a move to the Swindon job yesterday by the Scottish Sun newspaper, although Partick Thistle has not recieved an official approach from Town and Archibald himself has now rubbished the link.

The 39-year-old has been in charge at Fir Park since 2013 and, in his first half-season in charge, he guided Thistle to the Scottish First Division championship.

He is now in his fourth year in the SPL with Partick and he has guided the club to 10th, 8th, 9th and 6th this season, Partick's highest league position in 36 years.

Archibald claims that "we've not heard a thing (from Swindon). That's all it is - speculation.

"Regardless, I'm in a good place here and there's a good structure at the club, with our highest finish in a long time.

"There's nothing to report; the club put out a statement saying something similar.

"We just move on and get on with work as normal. I would need to wait and see if there's an approach made.

"There's not been, as far as I'm aware. I'm not going to talk about it unless there's something to speak about."

Archibald was nominated for the PFA Scotland manager of the year award this season, but Brendan Rodgers won it after convincingly winning the title with Celtic in his first season in charge.

Partick manager Archibald is a 39-year-old who had two spells at Thistle as a player, with four years at Dundee United inbetween, and made a combined 484 appearances for the two clubs.

Archibald has managed 184 games at Partick, winning 64, drawing 52 and losing 68, giving him a win percentage of 34.78.

Shrewsbury Town wanted Archibald in October of 2016, but he turned them down in favour of "unfinished business" at Partick.

Archibald initially signed a one-year rolling contract at Partick, but in May 2016 he penned an extension to his deal that has him tied down at Partick until 2019, so Swindon will have to pay compensation to Thistle if they want to poach him.
