ON-THE-WHISTLE MATCH REPORT: Swindon Town 3-0 Accrington Stanley

Swindon Town brought the curtain down on the 2017-18 season with a 3-0 win over champions Accrington Stanley, courtesy of goals from Marc Richards, Keshi Anderson and Paul Mullin.

Richards had Town in the lead in the 14th minute when he converted a right-sided Kyle Knoyle cross from close range to give Swindon fans something to cheer at the end of a disappointing season.

Anderson doubled Swindon's advantage in the closing stages of the first half with a lovely goal.

The January signing from Crystal Palace got the ball from a fair distance out, and played it to midfielder James Dunne, who backheeled it back to Anderson, and the winger steadied himself before slotting high into the back of the net.

Mullin made it 3-0 ten minutes into the second half with a low, drilled effort, that humbled the on-the-beach champions on the final day.

Swindon had the first shot of the game within a couple of minutes, but Rollin Menayese could only head straight at Accrington goalkeeper Aaron Chapman following Matt Taylor's corner.

Champions Accrington came straight back in the third minute, but Stuart Moore made a great diving save to his right to keep out Jordan Clark's rasping effort from the edge of the box.

Amine Linganzi was the next to have a go, but the Swindon midfielder's shot was easily saved by Chapman, and the 20-yard strike looked to have been going wide anyway.

Linganzi tried his luck again on the half-hour mark, again from distance, but this one definitely went wide of the far post.

Billy Kee would also try his luck from a long way out, however Moore was equal to his powerful drive and caught it with relative ease.

Accrington had the first attempt of the second half, but Jimmy Dunne could only force a save out of Moore with a header from a corner, and then James Dunne got ahead of Kayden Jackson to prevent Stanley netting the rebound.

Swindon's James Dunne burst through the middle  a minute later, but could only blaze over the bar when one-on-one with Chapman.

Town hit the post too just after the hour mark when a low free-kick by Player of the Year Matt Taylor took a nick off a defender and then the woodwork, but went behind for a corner, which game to nothing.

Stanley's next chance came via ex-Swindon man Kayden Jackson, but his shot from a tight angle was tipped wide by Moore and again the corner was cleared.

Although Swindon's season ended on a high, it was a bad day for Ellis Iandolo. He replaced Menayese on 64 minutes due to injury, but only lasted eight minutes and he was brought off, also due to injury, meaning he was sub-subbed on both the first and last day of this season.

With five minutes left, both James and Jimmy Dunne were sent off for each side, after the former pushed the latter over following a scuffle. Jimmy was sent off for a second yellow while James got a straight red.
