ON-THE-WHISTLE MATCH REPORT: Swindon Town 1-2 Coventry City

Despite taking the lead, Swindon Town suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to Coventry City as the Robins now only have one win from five league games at the County Ground.

Luke Norris put Swindon in the lead in the 20th minute but Coventry were level just 12 minutes later when Michael Doyle struck for the Sky Blues and Duckens Nazon won it for the away side 14 minutes from time.

James Dunne was sent off for Swindon just a matter of minutes before the second Coventry goal.

Swindon started nervously and were lucky to still have all 11 men on the pitch as early as the third minute.

When Coventry striker Max Biamou was through on goal, he was hauled over by Swindon centre-back, Chris Roberton.

Biamou was outside the box when he was brought down but Robertson was the last man and everyone inside the ground, whether they were wearing blue or red, was bemused that referee Charles Breakspear did not blow his whistle.

Just before the potential red card incident, Biamou had a good chance when he was one-on-one with Lawrence Vigouroux, but under pressure from Olly Lancashire. Vigouroux saved well.

Coventry striker Biamou called Vigouroux into action again five minutes later, but this shot, low and on the turn, was easy for Vigouroux to hold.

Swindon's first chance of the game came via a Matt Taylor free-kick, who replaced the injured Chris Hussey both at left-back and on set-piece duty. Taylor's low, drilled free-kick took a nick off the wall and went just wide of the post for a corner, which came to nothing.

Norris opened the scoring against the run of play in sensational style as the in-form striker netted a superb volley on the turn from around 12 yards out.

Town almost doubled their lead straight away, but on-loan Crystal Palace man Keshi Anderson volleyed a right-sided cross by fellow loanee Kellan Gordon.

Visitors Coventry had two ambitious attempts to get level. First, Duckens Nazon rifled into the side netting from an acute angle and then dangerman Jodi Jones let fly from 35 yards, but his effort sailed over the bar.

Jordan Willis also saw a header go over the bar from Jones' right-sided corner.

Coventry did get the deserved leveller though when Michael Doyle slotted in from close range when he profited from some less-than-impressive defending.

Jones surged down the right and his cross was deflected into the path of Doyle who had the simple task of slotting the ball past Vigouroux.

Swindon were the better side despite conceding the equaliser and they almost regained the lead when Paul Mullin's low side-footer was well saved by Lee Burge in the Coventry goal.

Soon after, Timi Elsnik had a long-distance curler deflected over and Paul Mullin headed Taylor's resulting corner over the top.

Coventry had another penalty shout just before the break though when Taylor shouldered Jones over in the box and this one was also waved away.

The second half started the same way the first one ended: with a Coventry penalty appeal.

Robertson was again the man involved in the potential foul when he slide-tackled Nazon, but Breakspear angered the away fans further by only signalling for a corner.

Coventry did get a favourable referee decision in the 76th minute though when Dunne was sent off for an apparent push on Doyle.

Ten-man Town were soon punished as Wolves loanee Nazon struck an impressive finish to win the three points for Coventry.

Swindon offered little when a man light, with the exception of Ben Purkiss powerful cross/shot being flicked wide by Anderson.

They had a strong penalty shout of their own turned down though when sub Harry Smith was shoved over in the box.
