ON-THE-WHISTLE MATCH REPORT: Swindon Town 0-3 Crawley Town

An own goal from Swindon Town captain Olly Lancashire, a Jordan Roberts strike and Jimmy Smith's late effort condemned the Robins to their first league defeat of the season.

Lancashire bundled into his own net in the 36th minute before Roberts and Smith added two more to give Harry Kewell his first win as manager of Sussex-based outfit, Crawley Town.

Crawley doubled their lead and secured the points in the 79th minute trough Jordan Roberts' deflected effort.

It was 3-0 five minutes from time after Crawley captain Jimmy Smith curled into the bottom corner from the edge of the box to pile the misery on for Swindon.

Swindon dominated the first half though, although for the majority they were unable to fashion clear-cut chances at goal.

In the second minute, Luke Norris headed a Chris Hussey free-kick over the bar and Lancashire nodded another Hussey set-piece, this time a free-kick, over not long after.

Hussey set-pieces continued to be the main source of Swindon chances in the opening 45 and Dion Conroy was the next man to head one wide, with still only 17 minutes on the clock.

Crawley started to get a foothold in the game around the 20-minute mark. First, Jimmy Smith had a shot from the edge of the box blocked and then he lashed a half-volley from similar range into the Town End.

Swindon's best chances in the opening half came within a minute of each other. Norris could and perhaps should have made it 1-0 with a half-volley when he was picked out by Donal McDermott, but Crawley keeper Glenn Morris was equal to it.

Morris scupped Norris again a matter of moments later when he got down well to keep out the ex-Gillingham forward, who took a touch and let fly from close in when found by Hussey's corner.

Visitors Crawley then began to push again. Panutche Camara sent a shot with the outside of his foot well wide of the post and then Enzio Boldewijn pea-rolled an effort from distance straight at goalkeeper, Lawrence Vigouroux.

Unfortunately, it was not all as easy as that for Vigouroux as seconds later Lancashire diverted a Lewis Young low cross into the Town net when under pressure from Jordan Roberts.

Despite going behind, Swindon's urgency did not falter, however their woes in-front of goal did not improve either.

Kaiyne Woolery fired a powerful effort just over the bar with six minutes of the first half still to play and Paul Mullin curled over from a long way out, too.

Despite the 53rd-minute introduction of debutant Matty Taylor and James Brophy it was much of the same from Swindon: possession control without much potency.

Crawley, meanwhile, were able to get some positive moves without much causing much danger to Vigouroux'S goal.

However, Jordan Roberts could have made it 2-0 to the away side but his tame effort was easily smothered by the Swindon stopper.

Roberts did just that though late on with an arrowed shot that took a deflection on its way to going in.

The second half was probably best summed up by Swindon's best effort on goal being a McDermott curler with his left foot that was close, but never really looked like troubling Morris.

Vigouroux still had to make another two brilliant saves in the last ten minutes, first from Roberts where Vigouroux pulled out a Gordan Banks-esque save to divert it out for a corner, and then Vigouroux kept out Josh Yowerth's header from the delivery.

Smith then finessed a lovely effort past Vigouroux with five minutes to play after Dannie Bulman's cut-back.

Manager David Flitcroft is still waiting for his first win at the County Ground following the 1-1 draw with Exeter and the 3-2 defeat to the West Ham Academy in the EFL Trophy.
