ON-THE-WHISTLE MATCH REPORT: Swindon Town 0-1 Chesterfield

Reece Mitchell's goal with what seemed to be the last kick of the game succumbed Swindon to a 1-0 defeat at the County Ground.

Chesterfield, who had only one shot on target all game, won the match at the death when substitute Reece Mitchell fired in an impressive effort in the 90th minute.

Until then, it looked like Swindon had done enough to get a 0-0 draw, in whart was a tepid affair.

Luke Norris, in for the injured Nicky Ajose, was the first to 'test' Chesterfield goalkeeper Thorsten Stuckmann but the German had no real trouble in stopping his flicked-on header from an Anton Rodgers free-kick.

In the ninth minute Norris had another goal, this time a right-footed shot from the edge of the box, but his shot went harmlessly wide for a goal kick.

Norris came relatively close again 10 minutes later, but on this occasion he was unable to turn the ball in from a tight angle following Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill's cross.

Captain Nathan Thompson was the next to have a decent opportunity at goal, but again, he could only scoop a stretched volley over the bar following a Rodgers' free-kick.

A flash, only a flash, of excitement happened in the 35th minute when James Brophy pulled out a silky nutmeg on Dan Jones, but the makeshift right midfielder's attempted cut back was dealt with by Stuckmann.

The second half was not much better either.

Three minutes after a restart Rodgers had a chance, but he skied his attempt after Barry's pass.

A proper shot on target did not come until the 61st minute although Brophy could only bring out a decent save from Stuckmann as Town's inability to score continued.

Swindon pushed more in the last half an hour but left disappointed.

Jon Obika headed a Johnny Goddard cross narrowly over and Goddard himself had a couple of shots deflected wide but no-one on the County Ground pitch ever looked like scoring.

Obika would also later hit a difficult shot on the turn over the bar and Raphael Branco nodded wide from a corner.

Substitute Jordan Stewart had a shot blocked too and Ormonde-Ottewill saw a low shot easily saved in the dying minutes but Town could not get the elusive goal.
