New striker to arrive at SN1 this week says Sheridan

A new striker will be arriving at Swindon Town this week according to manager John Sheridan as the Robins look to add firepower to their ranks after struggling for goals this season. Total Sport Swindon’s Ryan Walker spoke to the manager following the weekend loss against Doncaster Rovers.

Dropping to second from bottom in the league at the weekend, Swindon Town are desperately looking to add goals to their attack in the January transfer window as the club look to avoid being relegated back to League Two this season.

Goalkeeper Mark Travers, full-back Dominic Thompson, and defender Kieron Freeman have all joined Swindon during the current transfer window, and a new striker is now set to arrive at SN1 this week.

Discussing transfer dealings, Town boss John Sheridan said:

“We’re hoping to announce a new striker this week.

“We’re still working hard and players make their own decisions.

“We can only ask about them and try to get them to come and play for us but they make the decisions with agents,” he said.

“It’s difficult but we will keep plugging away and we definitely need two strikers in my eyes.

“It would provide competition for places and just because I bring people in it doesn’t mean they will go straight in.

“I just want people competing for places,” he added.

“I’m not sure how many games we have left at this moment in time but we’re in a very tight position.

“Three points and we can jump five places so we just need to get out of this bottom four area and win games,” said Sheridan.

Kieron Freeman is yet to make a matchday squad since arriving at the club, however, Sheridan explained that the defender will be available for selection in the upcoming away fixture against Charlton.

“He’s in next week and will get a weeks training under his belt,” said Sheridan.

“He will be available and we have another tough game at Charlton.

“Whoever I bring in I want them competing for places, making us stronger and start winning games.
