"My life flashed before my eyes" - Jason Doyle on Polish GP crash

Swindon Robins rider Jason Doyle has spoke about the crash that dashed his dreams of winning the 2016 Speedway World Championship.

Speaking to the FIM Speedway Grand Prix YouTube channel, Doyle recalled the serious crash in great detail that occured in Heat Three of the Torun Grand Prix, Poland, on October 1 of this year.

Prior to the horrific collision with the fence, Doyle was in pole position to be crowned World Champion as he was five points clear of American Greg Hancock with just two GPs, including one in his home country of Australia, to go.

In the video, Doyle thanks everyone for their support as he continues his recovery from a punctured left lung, a traumatised right lung, a dislocated shoulder and a shattered right elbow.

"I would just like to thank everyone for their support (with) everything that has happened it has been a really great year and I really enjoyed myself so hopefully I can see you all in 2017 and it is going to be another great year", Doyle said.

"I made a good start (to the race), I went up the back straight, thinking I could go into the turn, and a really good position.

"The next thing I could see was Bomber (Chris Harris) letting go of his bike and pretty much from then on it was like a rocket going into the fence.

"Laying on that track in Torun I did not know what was broken. I did not know how badly injured I was until I got to hospital and my life actually flashed before my eyes when they were sticking the tube in me."

Despite his further three-month spell off the bike, Doyle still has high aspirations to win the World Championship in earnest.

"It was nice to be told I had that chance of being World Champion, I never thought that was going to happen, and I am really glad people said these things.

"I have had some great support from ex-World Champions and a lot of nice people telling me that I can do it.

"I know it is going to be a long three months and getting back to full fitness in 2017 is not going to be easy but I am really looking forward to it."
