Michael Flynn said Swindon set their minimum standard in their victory over Plymouth

Michael Flynn said he wished that his team had put in that performance in a league game after Swindon Town ended pre-season with a 3-1 win over Plymouth Argyle. Total Sport’s Joe Acklam spoke to the manager after the match.

Dan Kemp opened the scoring with a stunning volley from a corner, with Rushian Hepburn-Murphy and Jacob Wakeling adding the other two goals either side of a strike from Morgan Whittaker.

Flynn was brimming with pride for all of his players for what he felt was a top-notch performance against the Championship outfit.

He said: “I wish that was a league game because we were exceptional today, I know it was probably a bit slow for the first twenty minutes, but we stuck to the game plan.

“The players were one for one with a very good team, who won League One last season and have very good players.

“I was very proud of them today, but the only thing they have shown is that this is the minimum I expect from them because today they were superb.

“The main thing was that we won the game, and that is why I wish it was next Saturday as getting three points is the most important thing.

“They all stuck to their roles and responsibilities that we have been working on with the patterns of play when they got to the final third.”

Flynn was particularly full of praise for Kemp after the on-loan midfielder put in a fine display as well as scoring a delightful first goal at the County Ground.

He said: “I think you have seen what he [Kemp] can do, he could have had a hat-trick, as well as scoring a great goal.

“He found pockets of space and was the link between the midfield and the strikers.

“We have worked a lot on the rotation between him, George [McEachran], and Saidou [Khan], they are very good players and I was very pleased with them.

“We worked on the set play, which has come off and that is another I would rather have saved for next week as we don’t want to use them all up.

“We have got more set plays in our tank, Wayne Hatswell works on them thoroughly, for and against, and he is one of the best I have seen at it.”
