Michael Flynn revealed Swindon Town are close to making their second summer signing

Michael Flynn revealed that Swindon Town are close to adding their second signing of the summer after missing out on a player due to geography. Total Sport’s Joe Acklam spoke to Swindon’s manager after their 5-0 victory over Melksham Town.

Murphy Mahoney is as yet the only summer addition that Flynn has been able to make, but he is confident that someone will soon be joining him.

Flynn also revealed that he had come close to an agreement with a player this week, but missed out as they didn’t want to move so far South.

He said: “There is no movement quite yet, but I am close with one and I think it will get done very shortly, it just about timing.

“It has been very frustrating, I lost out on one two days ago and that was purely for family reasons as they wanted to go further North.

“That was frustrating as we weren’t priced out of that one, it was just because of geography.

“This is the way it is going, and I will be patient about it, even if I have to wait until the end of the window to get somebody in.

“People might become available later on, but they have to be the right type of player for this football club and for this team.

“Like I said, everything we have seen, and they showed it at the end of last season and at times throughout the season, that we have some very talented players here.

“We just need to add that extra bit of nous, experience, and some extra competition, we are still looking to get those things and I won’t stop.”

Despite incomings having been at a premium so far this summer, Flynn still has 20 senior players at his disposal, of which 14 featured against Melksham, and this has the former-Walsall boss less worried about his transfer activity.

He said: “What it does [having a squad already in place] takes the pressure off of rushing in and signing players.

“That is why I am a little more relaxed than some of the fans, yes, we have missed out on some players for numerous reasons, but we haven’t had to go and sign somebody just because they are available.

“It is a difficult situation as there are so many different factors that come into it, but it is one that I am going to try my hardest to get right.

“But it gives me some breathing space that I have this many players already in the building.”
