MATCHDAY LIVE: Swindon v Stevenage

Follow along with live updates as Swindon Town play host to Stevenage in League Two. Total Sport's Joe Acklam reports live from the County Ground.

9:45PM

Ed Brand has been sent off after the match ended, presumably for saying something uncouth to the referee.

9:44PM
Whistle

Full-time: Swindon 0 Stevenage 1

"1-0 to the referee" rings around the County Ground and it is as loud as it has been all night.

9:43PM
Yellow Card

90- Max Clark gets booked for a foul on RHM. Free-kick half way inside the Stevenage half with not long left. 0-1.

9:42PM
Sub

90- OFF: Rose

ON: James-Wildin

9:41PM

90- Swindon had a sixth penalty shout of the match turned down, but this one definitely wasn't handball, so you can't really complain about that one. 0-1.

9:38PM

90- McEachran's low corner finds RHM and it deflects behind for another corner. 0-1.

9:36PM

90- Seven minutes added on *Obligatory where did that come from*. 0-1.

9:35PM

90- Minturn has just successfully done a Ronald-chop in his box and I have never been prouder of a Swindon academy player, including Nathan Thompson and Scott Twine. 0-1.

86- OFF: Reid

ON: Horgan

9:27PM
Sub

82- OFF: Bostwick, Roberts

ON: Forster-Caskey, Taylor

9:26PM

80- The ire of Swindon fans is in full flow towards the ref. A few penalty shouts and subsequent decisions going Stevenage's way has made him comfortably public enemy number one. 0-1.

9:20PM

74- Lovely move. McEachran plays a one-two with Hepburn-Murphy and drives through the middle before playing the ball wide to Austin. He tried to drill a low cross into the middle, but it was cleared away. 0-1.

9:18PM

73- The attendance tonight is 8289 with 311 away fans. 0-1.

9:17PM

72- That should have been the equaliser. Hutton crossed from deep straight onto the head of Austin, but he headed wide. 0-1.

9:16PM
Sub

70- OFF: Jephcott, Shade, Cain

ON: Austin, Wakeling, Darcy

9:15PM

69- Minturn gets let off. He tried to beat Roberts, but the forward blocked him, he played in Reid, who blazed the shot high and wide. 0-1.

9:12PM

66- I was fine with the other penalty shouts being turned down, but I have no idea how the ref can think that was not a penalty. The challenge comes from behind RHM and the ball doesn't move. You don't want to blame officiating but stuff like that makes it difficult. 0-1.

9:09PM

63- I am in shock. Hutton hits the highest cross you will ever see, Lo-Tutala misjudges it and spills to the feet of RHM, as he goes to finish he is taken from behind. Referee says no penalty. You really have to question what he thought happened there for it not to be a penalty. 0-1.

9:04PM

59- A corner was headed clear but as it dropped down Lavinier volleyed the ball sweetly towards goal, but Sweeney managed to get in the way. 0-1.

9:03PM

58- The whistle had already gone but Kane Smith just hit a fine strike into the bottom corner. 0-1.

9:02PM

56- Swindon are once again struggling to release pressure on them. 0-1.

8:56PM

51- Guilt-edged chance. Roberts skins Hutton and plays a perfect cross to the back post where fifty-pence head Danny Rose gets up and heads it out for a throw in. 0-1.

8:51PM

46- Early chance for RHM. He plays a quick one-two with Jephcott to get free and cuts inside the defender, but his low shot is too close to Lo-Tutala. 0-1.

8:50PM
Whistle

46- Jake Reeves gets us back underway. 0-1.

8:49PM

Stevenage have made their way back out. Hopefully the yelling is still going on in the home dressing room.

8:43PM

Swindon rallied quite well there. It was looking very bleak early on as the aerial bombardment was in full effect and Town would have taken 1-0 then. Since the goal Swindon have regained their composure and started to cause problems, but that physical threat is very much still there.

8:35PM
Whistle

Half-time: Swindon 0 Stevenage 1

8:32PM

45- As three minutes get added on RHM drives quickly down the left into the box and tees up McEachran, who tries to finesse the ball into the corner, but Lo-Tutala made the save. Big chance. 0-1.

8:32PM

45- Stevenage have just taken a corner which swung straight out of play. That is your whole game plan. 0-1.

8:27PM

41- Minturn covers back very well to deny Reid having a free shot in the box after Rose got in behind when he looked offside. 0-1.

8:27PM

40- Nearly. Lavinier is given space and just keeps running, he is eventually closed down 25 yards out and takes a shot that the 'keeper parries but just recovers before any Swindon players can get to the ball. 0-1.

8:23PM

36- Since getting the opener, Stevenage have dropped in and allowed Swindon to have the ball. As yet they have not taken advantage of this. 0-1.

8:22PM

35- Huge let off. Khan tries to take on three attackers on the edge of his own box, gets tackled and Roberts took his shot from the edge of the area, but it went over the top. 0-1.

8:17PM

30- That was injury-related, Brewitt went down before walking off under his own steam. 0-1.

8:16PM
Sub

30- OFF: Brewitt

ON: Minturn

The youngster is being thrown to the wolves here. 0-1.

8:16PM

29- A fairly rowdy away support has been enthused by the goal and is getting after Charlie Austin warming up in front of them. 0-1.

8:13PM

25- Gilbey gets in behind Swindon and cut the ball back for Reid to slam home from close range. Not really a surprise. 0-1.

8:12PM
Goal

Goal. Swindon 0 Stevenage 1 (Reid '25)

8:10PM

23- Reid countered into space down the left for Stevenage, but with Rose in the middle he opted to shoot and it went well wide. 0-0.

8:08PM

21- Stevenage doing a Sutton and letting their goalkeeper take all free-kicks in their half. It is not a good plan as Lo-Tutala shanks it out for a throw-in. 0-0.

8:06PM

19- Close. Shade drives into the area and finds Jephcott with his back to goal, he tries to nudge the ball to McEachran but puts too much on it, he is forced to give it to RHM and his shot on the turn goes over the top. My negativity has turned the tide. 0-0.

8:04PM

17- Lavinier plays the ball to RHM, who burns his defender and looks to thread a pass in towards Jephcott, but Bostwick gets there first. Swindon are starting to find some room. 0-0.

8:02PM

15- Stevenage look to have switched to a back three tonight and dropped Bostwick into defence, Jephcott doesn't seem to be having too much fun so far against those three behemoths. 0-0.

7:58PM

11- There is absolutely no way Swindon get anything from this match but a thrashing on current evidence. Town haven't kept the ball at all and Stevenage have looked like scoring every time they win it back. 0-0.

7:57PM

10- The first foray forwards from Swindon sees McEachran making a clever run into the box and he goes down but the referee waves away the claims. 0-0.

7:56PM

10- Smith gets down the right and chips a ball to the back post where Roberts meets it, but heads wide. Utter domination from the visitors so far. 0-0.

7:54PM

8- Update: this is going very badly. 0-0.

7:52PM

6- The free-kick is touched to one side and Roberts slammed the shot, but it went over the top. Can I Change my prediction from LSPOD to 3-0 Stevenage? 0-0.

7:51PM

4- This is going to be a long evening. Reid wins the long ball and knocks it down to Roberts. Brewitt unceremoniously brings him down and it is a free-kick on the edge of the box. 0-0.

7:50PM

3- Cain gets muscled off the ball by Roberts and he slammed a short goalwards from the edge of the box, but Brewitt got in the way. Stevenage then spent ages preparing a long throw in that came to nothing. Pattern established. 0-0.

7:46PM
Whistle

1- McEachran gets us underway at the County Ground. 0-0.

7:45PM

Has anyone tried to beat Stevenage this season with a smaller midfield than Jake Cain and George McEachran? I think not.

7:43PM

Here come the players

7:39PM

The obvious note from the line-up is that Jonny Williams is not involved. He was on the injury report with a groin issue, but it is hard not to suspect the contract situation is not playing at least some role in his absence.

7:31PM

Tyrese Shade's practice free-kicks in the warm-up have not gone well, McEachran to take them in the game.

7:30PM

The main thing I think Swindon need to add in the summer is a player who wears short socks. Watching Bradford last week and Charlie Walker made me miss McKirdy and the vibe of the short sock-wearing maverick. I don't really mind who they are as long as we get one.

7:16PM

Looking at some stats for Stevenage and they make for some very puzzling reading. Stevenage rank below Swindon for accurate long balls, above them for total of course, and they are second bottom for short passes. They don't appear to have had the ball at any point during the season and yet are getting promoted (more than likely). Really makes thing.

6:58PM

Makise Evans is on the bench for Stevenage tonight and he is 16 years old. He supposedly impressed on loan at Potters Bar Town in the Isthmian League Premier Division (seventh tier) and has now been put on the bench for the first team.

6:52PM

Bizarrely it would appear Stevenage are sticking largely with the team that lost against Mansfield rather than the one which won against Wimbledon and Doncaster. They have made one change from the weekend as Kane Smith replaces Luther James-Wildin, so 433 again.

Lo-Tutala

Smith Piergianni Sweeney Clark

Gilbey Bostwick Reeves

Reid Rose Roberts

6:48PM

Stevenage XI:

Lo-Tutala, Clarke, Reeves, Piergianni, Sweeney, Roberts, K.Smith, Gilbey, Bostwick, Reid, Rose

Subs: Przybek, James-Wildin, Taylor, Horgan, Tomkinson, Forster-Caskey, Evans

6:46PM

Swindon Town XI:

Brynn; Hutton, Brewitt, Clayton, Lavinier; Cain, Khan, McEachran; Shade, Jephcott, Hepburn-Murphy

Subs: Brann, Darcy, Austin, Kadji, Wakeling, Minturn, Brown

6:36PM

Good evening everyone. All eyes are on the County Ground tonight, that might be because it is a big game for Stevenage and not Swindon, but let's put that to one side. Jody Morris can win three straight games or even go four undefeated for the first time in his reign this evening, although that does seem a touch unlikely given the way the away leg of this went. Teams to follow.
