MATCH REPORT: Swindon (0) Doncaster Rovers (2)

Swindon Town were punished for a ponderous performance as Luke Molyneux scored two in quick succession to win the game 2-0 for Doncaster. Total Sport’s Joe Acklam reports on the League Two clash.

Neither side managed to find a rhythm in the first 45 minutes, with chances few and far between for both sides.

Molyneux fired home twice from 18 yards out in the space of three minutes to see Swindon left empty handed.

A second straight defeat to kick-off the Jody Morris era sees Swindon slip down to 10th in the League Two table.

Jody Morris made two changes from his first line-up as Rushian Hepburn-Murphy was ruled out through suspension and Ciaran Brennan dropped to the bench in favour of Tom Clayton and Ronan Darcy.

Swindon started slowly and the first real chance of note came the way of the away side as Town were caught in possession and Molyneux got down the left and chipped a cross into Kyle Hurst, his header was pushed behind for a corner by Sol Brynn.

Remeao Hutton and Darcy played a quick one-two to get the former into a good position on the edge of the box, but Hutton opted to try a dinked pass into the area and he put too much weight on it.

Jonathan Mitchell was called into action for the first time after 24 minutes when Jonny Williams received the ball in space 35 yards from goal and elected to shoot, and the Doncaster ‘keeper was forced to tip it behind for a corner.

After 38 minutes Doncaster could have found the breakthrough when Jake Cain under hit a back pass that allowed Luke Molyneux in down the right, Frazer Blake-Tracy did well to make the pass to George Miller difficult and Dylan Kadji got back to end the danger.

A first half with minimal chances almost ended in spectacular fashion as Jacob Wakeling won a free kick on the left corner of the box after he was tripped running in behind, Cain stepped up and curled his effort against the connection and with the frame of the goal still shaking, the referee blew for half-time.

Ten minutes after the break Dylan Kadji rolled his marker and drove forwards before Swindon worked the ball to Cain and his shot from range went narrowly over the crossbar.

Another cute move saw Williams latch onto a loose ball in midfield and play the ball wide to Wakeling, he fizzed a ball across the face of goal but Darcy couldn’t get on the end of it.

Doncaster took the lead against the run of play with 20 minutes remaining as Molyneux was allowed too much space to dribble on the edge of the box and reversed his shot beyond Brynn at the near post.

Two minutes later Molyneux had another as he received a cut back from James Maxwell at the top of the box and swept it into the bottom corner with a first-time finish.

These two goals deflated Swindon and they failed to get anything going in the latter stages and no comeback was forthcoming.
