MATCH PREVIEW: Swindon v Doncaster Rovers

Jody Morris will be hoping for his first three points as head coach of Swindon Town as he manages at the County Ground for the first time against Doncaster Rovers. Total Sport’s Joe Acklam previews the League Two clash.

Swindon got off to a losing start under Morris’ stewardship as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Newport County last weekend, having gone down to ten-men after 15 minutes.

After the disappointment of last week, Morris is keen to show the County Ground crowd what his teams are all about this weekend.

He said: “I want to give the fans a little bit more to shout about, dropping down to ten men in your first game after 15 minutes is not great.

“As much as the lads worked their socks off, hopefully when we have got the same amount of men on the pitch as the other team we have a better chance of imposing ourselves.

“I want the crowd to see that the players are confident in their ability on the ball, confident in possession, and show that they are ready to work as hard as they can in our shirt.

“I want to see the messages that I have been giving since I have been here, but ultimately I want the fans to see that the players are playing for the club.

“I would like to give the fans something to see at every opportunity, but you especially want people coming to our stadium knowing that they are going to see a team performing.

“We are going to try and turn this place [the County Ground] into as much of a fortress as we can.”

Doncaster got back to winning ways in mid-week with a 2-0 win over Tranmere Rovers to end a run of three-straight defeats, but Morris says misfortune has played its part in their tough form.

He said: “I was just saying downstairs that a lot of the footage I have watched, they are going through a bad run, but some of the results they have had have been slightly unjust.

“Particularly in the Mansfield game I thought they were playing some nice stuff and then there are individual mistakes and small moments in games where they dip.

“They will be pleased that they got a good result in the week off the back of not the best bit of form.

“But I don’t think that form is particularly fair as from what I have seen they have certainly been doing alright in games and have outperformed the opposition at times.”

Town came out on top when the two teams met earlier in the season at the Eco-Power Stadium, as a Jacob Wakeling goal got Scott Lindsey his second win as Swindon head coach, both bosses in that game have since left as Gary McSheffrey was replaced by Danny Schofield in October.

That win was only Swindon’s sixth against Rovers in their history, but they did record a memorable win over them in March 2015 as Jonathan Obika scored a last-minute winner to take Town third in League One.
