MATCH PREVIEW | Swindon Town vs Notts County

Swindon have the chance to go top of League Two as they take on league leaders Notts County.

Just days after their 2-1 victory over Grimsby, Swindon are back in action and looking to keep their unbeaten start to the season alive, a tricky away trip to Notts County will surely prove to be Town's toughest opponents yet.

Notts County have had a perfect start to life back in the football league, the newly promoted side find themselves top of the table after 10 games. But following a 5-4 loss to Colchester at the weekend is now the perfect time to strike for Swindon?

Top of the table clash

Swindon currently find themselves third in League Two, just one point behind leaders Notts County and second-placed Crawley. However, Swindon vitally have a game in hand that will see them go top should they win and continue to match the results of the teams ahead of them until then.

So should this game be considered a six-pointer just 10 games in? Should Swindon come away tomorrow with a win then they will be firmly in the driving seat and have dispatched a top team. It is way too early to declare league favourites but right now you could make a great case for Swindon being that team.

It's unknown how heavily rotated the starting eleven will be following Grimsby but it is likely Jake Young will start with him being unavailable for Saturday's fixture against Bradford due to them being his parent club.

Michael Flynn reported no new injuries after the weekend's win so baring fitness concerns, Flynn has his full team to pick from.

Opposition Analysis

Notts County were overshadowed by the Hollywood story of Wrexham's rise, but the start to their League Two campaign has shown that they were and still are a top-quality side. The league leaders suffered their second loss of the season on Saturday in a blockbuster game against Colchester.

County fought hard until the end with Macaulay Longstaff’s 92nd-minute goal inspiring a few mad minutes in the search for an equaliser. Whether the 101-minute-long game will have to force Luke Williams into rotating his side is yet to be seen but the high-tempo game will have affected their legs far more than Swindon's controlled win over Grimsby.

The Magpies have not been short of goals this season finding the net 23 times with only Swindon and Crewe having more goals. Notts County have yet to drop any points at home this season so it will provide a major challenge for Swindon to come and topple the league leaders.

Head-to-head

Swindon have won 4 of the last 5 games against Notts County with the most recent victory coming in 2019, a 3-1 victory. Swindon have the better record when the two have faced off but with them not meeting for a few years the data goes out of the window.

Notts County’s last victory over Swindon came in 2017.

Match Prediction:

Swindon face their toughest test of the season so far, Notts County will want to put right their tight loss to Colchester so the game will have goals. Our prediction is that the game sees the two best sides in the league go head to head but neither will come away with three points.

Notts County 2-2 Swindon Town
